I’m a writer, but don’t expect deep, personal shit. I’m a sysadmin who doesn’t like nerds, they’re every bit as willing to be the most vicious and petty of bullies as the people they claim they’re so very different from.

But as individuals, they’re all right.

A lefty who hunts, so not an NRA fan. Done martial arts for years, not one of the MMA clowns.

If I say “free software” I ONLY am speaking of the price.

This seems cool, but based on what an admittedly fast search found, is there really no way to automate Affinity Publisher beyond basically mail merge?

Someone please tell me this app has a proper automation implementation. https://mastodon.social/@JasonAnthonyGuy/112576510741333419

@alwillis sigh. “Why do people keep using Adobe products?”

“Because you can build a complex workflow that’s not completely fucking manual?”

This is the same lesson Adobe learned 24 years ago.

You want me to really be loyal to your product, make it so I can’t replace it with literally any other product. Fuck, I had an entire ID badge creation workflow built around InDesign where the only manual part was finding the picture for the badge. It used the image name to build the name on the badge.

"When a 23-year-old Sam Altman took the stage at Apple Inc.’s annual developer conference in 2008, he gushed about being able to use the company’s new App Store to promote his software, a friend-locating service called Loopt."

That's OpenAI's Sam Altman. He spoke at WWDC in 2008? That's incredible.

And now he's back. 2008 was the year of the App Store (and some brutal NDAs).

what does it say about Silicon Valley that they think the most pressing problems facing the American worker and consumer right now are: 1) too many e-mails to read; 2) too many meetings to attend; 3) i wish i had an assistant to plan my travel.

@peter @ashedryden they believe 100% of problems can be solved by React.

Y’all, you want to replace Adobe, it’s not just the manual parts like image editing and creation. It’s also about production which requires automation.

Look at how you can automate things like Photoshop and InDesign.

Some apps get it, Pixelmator has a really solid scripting implementation.

Adobe finally listened over 20 years ago. Why the fuck would I chose a non-automatable app over one I can automate in a production environment?

At this point, the fact that a cop being busted for any form of sexual assault being “oh yeah, that happens” is tremendously sad.

No one is surprised at any level of misbehavior from cops anymore.

For those of you wanting matter-compliant candelabra bulbs, Wiz makes decent, albeit pricey kit. Integration into Apple Home is tedious (just keep trying every few days, eventually it works)

Microsoft will never do the things they need to to make Windows materially more secure. They’ll just keep slapping more layers on it to look better

“I only use FOSS software on custom-built FOSS hardware, it was so easy.”

“What’s your background.”

“A decade in tech working with operating systems, hardware, & code at a deep level.”

“How often do you need help?”

“Never, I just fix the code myself, it’s easy!”

🙄

(If you’re happy with your choices great, but those not living the FOSSStan life aren’t morally bankrupt/stupid/ignorant. Tech choices make you neither superior or inferior, but pretense to the former makes you a bit of a prick.)

What copilot recall will do is force companies to disallow any remote access with a personal Windows computer unless NAC detection can include recall.

I do not care about new APIs at WWDC.

I want to see:

  1. documentation that isn’t header regurgitation written by people who think only incompetents need documentation.

  2. Apple actually dogfooding beyond their own convenience.

  3. full-throated support for automation, both Shortcuts and AppleScript/JXA (or even a more swift-based language)

And in the realm of things that are possible:

I want them to give me a pony.

There’s the Idaho option: OB-GYNs leave the state for places where they can safely practice medicine.

This won’t actually hurt the only people Paxton cares about, rich honkies, but if enough middle-class white women are hurt by this, maybe they’ll vote for their own interests for a change.

Basically, unless the honkies that created the current Texas state gov. choose to vote differently, nothing will change & I don’t see why any doc should operate in that legal climate.
