To my shock, I was laid off today, another senseless casualty of the perpetual re-orging and belt-tightening that follows being acquired by a private equity firm. Despite the fact that I've give three different product demos in as many weeks, apparently I am not contributing enough. I feel deeply and profoundly betrayed by a job that I loved. To be clear, this was an upper management decision; my former coworkers and friends are just as shocked and saddened as me.

Now is the time on Saturday when I see pictures of my friends enjoying a huge dump of snow up in the mountains… and other friends stuck in horrendous traffic* on the highway getting to the mountains and think that maybe sleeping in and having a second cup of coffee is a mixed blessing.

One of the team's favorite games is Foot Down. We make a circle of water bottles and people try to stay upright on their bikes for the longest. Once you put a foot down, you're out. In the past two weeks, two people I know who were in their early 60s passed away from undiscovered heart problems. In both cases, they could have been detected early with a $200 heart scan.

Guys in your 50s: get your hearts scanned and save your family and friends a whole lot of pain and sorrow.

The DJ feature is one of the latter, terrible features. "He" keeps saying things like "I've noticed you listen to a lot of Country"
The hell I do!
"Okay, switching it up, here's something I think you'll like: an hour of 70s R&B"
Wut?
Switches it off and goes back to spinning my own music.

Every April for the past few years I’ve undertaken a project I call Operation Active April: get out and do 30+ minutes of aerobic activity every day for a month (mostly bike rides, #Zwift, and runs). This is the first year I’ve actually seen it through for all 30 days despite [challenges].

Friends, I’m tired. But I also feel fantastic and a little proud. I went from barely being able to run 5 km to being able to do 10 km without much effort.
