Have you guys ever had like, a fully deleted SSD?

My sibling asked me to fix a friend's laptop, and on GParted the thing is just, unallocated space, not formatted or anything.

Would you consider that they might have gotten hacked in some way or should I just, reinstall Windows on it and hope it was a one time only thing? :blobcatderpy:

chimbosonic,

@joel SSDs can be wiped pretty trivially via BIOS could be they left the laptop unattended and someone had fun? Or they were playing in the BIOS? I think S.M.A.R.T tracks ssd wipes. Worth checking S.M.A.R.T in case it’s a dead controller.

  • chimbosonic,

@kubikpixel @hko I would recommend Sequoia it’s a full replacement of the gnupg project and is in rust and being built by someone real smart people including ex-gnupg devs. We’ve used it in doip-rs and the api is super well documented. You can also fully use pure rust by changing the features tho the rust crypto libraries aren’t safe yet.

    chimbosonic,

@governa I wonder how I2P torrents work? Can I just use any torrent file and send over I2P? How do trackers work?

Great article from LWN on the terraform licensing changes https://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/942346/014f407d03f4cd03/

    chimbosonic,

@governa getting a center speaker fixes that issue. 90% of movies have soundtrack and voice on center channel and TVs mainly are stereo so all the other channels cover the center channel sounds.

    chimbosonic,

@governa I want to bet a Product Owner at Apple still uses their Shuffle

    chimbosonic, to Blog

Another blog post (perhaps I might do this daily?)
This time about Hashicorp vault and docker-compose secret management.
    https://tilde.club/~chimbo/blog/posts/hashicorp-vault-and-docker-compose.html

Also had to update the blogging tool as bashblog didn't support code blocks so I'm using mdbook

    chimbosonic,

@joel might give it a try!

    mttaggart, to random

Ugh, finally making peace with Hashicorp Vault.

Hilarious though that no matter how good my secrets management, Terraform will just write them in cleartext to its state file.

    Good job everybody.

    chimbosonic,

@mttaggart wait till you find out people use terraform_remote_state data source to share those secrets between services

Calckey.social had to shut down new registrations and migrations temporarily - they are getting very popular. If you’re looking to kick the tires on Calckey, feel free to give https://Infosec.town a try.

    chimbosonic,

@jerry Is Calckey federated with Mastodon? Can we see their posts here ? And can they see our posts?
