I mean, if you're going to take the whole "the grinder is the most important part of the equation" thing seriously, why not prove it. ;)

Rancilio Stile grinder paired up with a Breville Bambino Plus. The PF almost sort of works in the Stile's PF holder. 7.1sec gives 17.5g dose.

I have mixed feelings about this.

(from our Amazon affiliate link reporting - yes I got $0.34 in kickback on the order someone placed via our affiliate link).

MHW-3Bomber is getting a lot more serious this year (I still think they need a rebranding though, to match the more serious products).

They are sending us their new Blade manual grinder to test and review. What makes this grinder unique is it has a built in sieve system, for sieving out fines from your pour over and press pot grinds. That is innovative. I am looking forward to testing it!

The Sea Salt white Bambino Plus is absolutely gorgeous.

We are FINALLY going to try and get out our Full Review of this machine. Breville sent us a new one, with the new MilQ branding and red ring and a few minor tweaks to the machine. (for instance,, it comes with the same upgraded heavier plastic / metal tamper the Barista Express does).

coffeegeek,
@coffeegeek@flipboard.social avatar

@bedirthan do you mean the barista touch or barista touch impress? Did you get either?

coffeegeek,
@coffeegeek@flipboard.social avatar

@bedirthan It's a good choice! It has all that the Bambino Plus has, plus some nice automations, and all you need to do is dose, tamp and move the PF from one area to the next. Congrats!

Interesting poll results.

My poor siphon coffee. Dead last. That was my own choice.

Not surprised to see aeropress so close to pour over coffee, however.

Coffee cannot be canned.

I know lots of roasters / cafes / brands are doing exactly that, but they are killing the taste of coffee. So they add shit in to make it taste better. Because canned coffee tastes bad on its own.

Here's why I like Turin Grinders and the Espresso Outlet company behind them:

Sure, they are selling white label China made grinders, but they are doing 100% of their service and support for these in the USA. And often getting them to you at cheaper prices than you'd pay for the same grinder via Ali Express.

Not to mention if you bought the white label grinder on Ali, good luck with after sales service. Non-existent.

Turin just launched a white label hand grinder. Looks interesting for $70.

Today is the last day for the huge Breville sale in the USA on all their Barista Line machines, and the Bambino Plus. All are 20% off, until Midnight EDT time tonight. So if you've been on the fence, time to make the click or pass the deal.

We've detailed each machine up on offer, showing the benefits and detriments.

My Dieter Rams' designed, ABR-313 Braun Travel Alarm Clock Radio I bought for my European post-university trip, back in 1991. Way before smartphones, laptop computers, tablets, we relied on things like this for telling time, waking up, and listening to news, sports and music.

This plastic fantastic device is now 34 years old, but it still works as new, and looks great. This is a photo I took of the one I own, in 2016. It's on my work desk, upstairs.

This thing even had an alarm "snooze" function, a night light, and a fully retractable antenna. Runs on AA batteries.

And because I just felt the urge, here is what the Braun ABR-313 looks like, this evening. I have it (usually) on my work desk, and occasionally use it to listen to local radio. Still sounds great (that usual transistor radio tinny-ness!) and the clock still keeps accurate time.

As far as I know, CoffeeGeek is the only review site / IG channel / Youtube channel / Tiktok / Whatever coffee review website that will REGULARLY call out manufacturers for not making their packaging more environmentally friendly.

I wish more would do so.

But regardless, this is a hill I'm happy to die on. It's important. Only by awareness will things change, for the better.

@coffeegeek plz review the SYNESSO ES.1

I miss my MVP Hydra from when we owned a cafe and I've been lusting over this

coffeegeek,
@coffeegeek@flipboard.social avatar

@feld I don't think there's any chance in heck I'll be reviewing a Synesso machine. Sorry!

coffeegeek,
@coffeegeek@flipboard.social avatar

@feld afaik, Synesso has never shown an interest in doing this. And I know the company's founder; I knew him when he started the company, so I go way back with them. Plus anyone who reviews it would have to have 220 volt power and the ability to plumb the machine in.

coffeegeek,
@coffeegeek@flipboard.social avatar

@feld Ahh, cheers. I was not familiar with that new machine. Looks interesting. $10K USD tho. Wow.

Fresh up on CoffeeGeek this morning, a full review of a budget-oriented competitor for the Acaia Lunar; a smart coffee scale that fits on most espresso machine drip trays: the MHW-3Bomber Cube 2.0 Mini Scale. Find out if it's worth the $45!

About to review the MHW-3Bomber Mini Cube 2 scale; I know a few folks think it's a clone of the Timemore Black Mirror scale, but it is not, other than being a similar size. LCD, controls, display, weighing pan mechanism are different.

It has a really cool feature too: auto on and tare when something 100g or more is placed on it. Great for measuring a portafilter's contents. It's also not much bigger than the Acaia Lunar (a $250 scale).

Cheap too, ⬇️

A reminder - just over a week left on the big sale Breville currently has on all their Barista line of espresso machines, and the Bambino Plus, with all at 20% off. It ends May 13.

I wrote up the sale, and which machines have the best features for the kind of espresso (and milk based drinks) you want in the home.

How it started / how it's going.

From scratch pizza on my hacked backyard barbecue, firing about 700F for a 4.25 minute bake.

My only gripe, didn't get the oven spring I hoped for.

Pizza after the bake is done.
