People who laugh about Adelaide not being a World city should try buying food within 500m of Sydney Central station after 10pm on a Tuesday.

The new Albury trains have USB charger plugs on them. That's cool.

corduroy,
@corduroy@aus.social avatar

@timrichards Sydney intercity fleet will get this later this year too. USB-A just as the world moves to USB-C. This is the problem with installing kit like this on trains that last 40 years.

corduroy,
@corduroy@aus.social avatar

@timrichards I’m sure it can be done, but it’s not straightforward.

It’s nice having a government that looks for smarter solutions to a problem. Want to use the dam for flood protection? Lower the storage and make water another way when we need it. Cheaper, quicker, and better than raising the wall.

    Oh, this is too perfect. Call an election to get a majority and end up with a parliament where it’s impossible for either old party to secure a stable majority. Magnificent. Well played, Tasmanians, well played.

    I know that not all my interests appeal to everyone, and some would prefer I segment them into separate accounts.

    But I refuse to do this because not only is it too much work, it makes me feel like a god damn content farm. And I don’t like feeling like I’m a content farm.

    As crazy as this might sound, I write for myself first. If you like what I write, that’s gravy—but that’s just a bonus too.

    So if you’re here just for Fediverse posts, I’m sorry to disappoint you—I talk about other stuff too.

    @decryption they must be bringing boat loads of them in, there are so many of them on the road all of a sudden. Reckon they’re a good deal against a $40k Corolla. You’d save half the $5k extra in the first year’s fuel saving.

    corduroy,
    @corduroy@aus.social avatar

    @decryption oh the base model is now under $40k drive away, so same price as a Corolla! There are going to be a lot of these on the road.

    @KiwiEV did you see the AU car experts thing where they drove two 7 series one petrol and one EV between MEL and SYD and said it was cheaper and faster in a gas car.

    I couldn't be bothered digging into it, but it does seem like it was about 5 years too late, but I guess they are still " on noes the EVs are bad"

    corduroy,
    @corduroy@aus.social avatar

    @owen3d @franksting @jonoabroad @KiwiEV this is weird. Driving between Sydney and Melbourne there are a lot of charging options, there’s absolutely no need to get to 2%. 20 minutes charging gets you more than two hours of driving, there’s no need to sit for an hour unless you’re an idiot.
    I only recently switched from a petrol car to an ev, an I have no solar - charging at home, this car costs me ⅓ as much as petrol. Public charging, it’s closer to ½. I can’t see how you could make an ev cost more than an ice car. Like I say - weird.

    corduroy,
    @corduroy@aus.social avatar

    @franksting @owen3d @jonoabroad @KiwiEV it’s worth noting that Melbourne - -> Sydney via the Hume is the worst case for an ev - Almost no regen that you get driving almost anywhere else.
