Has anyone thought about what we will do with all the land occupied by service stations? It’s now 5 weeks since I got car-energy away from home.

I think governments will need to spend a fair bit on rehabilitating these polluted sites when the holding companies go broke one-by-one.

@kcarruthers seems like a fair assessment given even the most-progressive government we could hope to elect here is still not really addressing this problem, and that’s repeated across the world.

Any solutions for using a smartphone permanently plugged in without destroying the battery? e.g for use as a security camera, or a display

corduroy,

@decryption @lukasm this is clever. You could also just limit to 80% if it’s an iPhone

@huwr I think indexing a loan is the right thing to do. They should go back to not charging, or charging a nominal amount. My 90’s HECS debt was $10k for three years, repayments started at 3%, and only above average income. It was far more reasonable.

Today my Tesla told me (on the 4-lane, dual carriageway Great Western Highway) that I was exceeding the speed limit of “-1 km/h”. But I’m sure full self-driving is just one or two software updates away.

It will never not be jarring to read about the cost of emergency health care in particular. What a strange idea.

The new Albury trains have USB charger plugs on them. That's cool.

corduroy,

@timrichards Sydney intercity fleet will get this later this year too. USB-A just as the world moves to USB-C. This is the problem with installing kit like this on trains that last 40 years.

@timrichards I’m sure it can be done, but it’s not straightforward.

It’s nice having a government that looks for smarter solutions to a problem. Want to use the dam for flood protection? Lower the storage and make water another way when we need it. Cheaper, quicker, and better than raising the wall.

I know that not all my interests appeal to everyone, and some would prefer I segment them into separate accounts.

But I refuse to do this because not only is it too much work, it makes me feel like a god damn content farm. And I don’t like feeling like I’m a content farm.

As crazy as this might sound, I write for myself first. If you like what I write, that’s gravy—but that’s just a bonus too.

So if you’re here just for Fediverse posts, I’m sorry to disappoint you—I talk about other stuff too.

@decryption they must be bringing boat loads of them in, there are so many of them on the road all of a sudden. Reckon they’re a good deal against a $40k Corolla. You’d save half the $5k extra in the first year’s fuel saving.
