After a lot of deliberation, I've decided to initialize a git repository in my notes folder. I already use syncthing to mirror it between devices, but I wanted to have a log of all the changes I've made and the ability to revert to a previous version if necessary.

The problem is, I always forget to commit! Do you have any ideas about how I can build up the habit?

@eponymous_patcher

program a "run a commit" kb macro on emacs exit or on another trigger

Since last night I'm giving #vivaldi browser a try. So far great experience, uses much less memory than FF, integrated RSS reader, vertial tabs by default and side panels are a real plus.

Is it still true that Vivaldi is owned by their employees?

In case people I really like are wondering why I unfollowed them, it's always because you called (or boosted someone else calling) Jewish people Nazis. I will not use the Holocaust Inversion Trope, not even against fascist, genocidal Zionists, because it hurts Jewish people who are not fascist or genocidal or Zionist to see it, and I care about the requests of the Jewish diaspora not to do this. Nazis, by definition, want to exterminate Jewish people. What is happening in Israel is not about killing Jewish people, meaning the genocide that is actually happening is not towards Jewish people. Talk about similarities all you want to, due to the shared characteristics of fascism, genocide, imperialism, and an ethno-state. But both of us are not Jewish, so we do not have the right to dabble in antisemitic tropes as insults. I was sad to see you go.

Edit: Holocaust Inversion includes "Final Solution" appropriations.

i've found stock agenda views worked for a long time & only have made minor changes along the way.

plus i don't just install all the org packages, i need a specific need to do that.

How do you quick edit file in from terminal? I have this habit it quick „vim” command - it’s quick. But my neovim config is unmanaged for a few months so it’s broken. So you simply open emacs in terminal (slow boot) or have some nice shortcut to throw the file into an existing client?

Gotta love that the Blue Jackets finally come back from their west coast trip and...the game is on NHL Network. Lol. I hate the NHL and it's insistence to make games exclusive to a network that approximately five people have. Guess I don't need to watch the Jackets.

just a way of searching would be far better than any lazy algorithm

Here is a quick status update on the current Spam attack.

We have limited 125 instances now. It appears that most of these instances are completely unmoderated.

From what I could read, the attacker is a single person from Japan, who abuses instances with open pre-approved registrations.

Four users on our instance are the primary target of these spam posts and I send my regrets for the trouble they have to go through.

A community member has provided a moderation tool to quickly catch these spam posts and suspend the domains, but it still is a manual process and requires a considerable amount of time. Every time I turn around to my coffee machine and come back, there is new spam. So do not be surprised when you see spam in your notifications, which then disappears after a few minutes. That's just us cleaning up 🙂

I especially thank our 4 moderators, who are very engaged in quickly responding to reports over the course of the weekend. ♥️

I do not expect this spam attack to end any time soon. ActivityPub was designed this way. Anyone can spin up a server and be part of the network. There will be copycats.

This exposes a grave lack of moderation capabilities in the Mastodon software in particular. Many admins have called for such facilities for a long while, created Pull Requests in their free time with solutions, but have been ignored by the Mastodon Dev team for years. Still, their only response is complete nonsense, discriminatory against people with disabilities, and does not show competence to build prospective solutions in the near future.

It is now for the community to step in and fill this gap. If anything, this attack made that very clear and there are already some promising efforts underway.

So, hang on and thanks for being part of this amazing community! 🚀

maybe time go scorched earth and just move from mastodon server.
