Treat your to-read pile like a river → https://www.oliverburkeman.com/river

> "This means treating your "to read" pile like a river (a stream that flows past you, and from which you pluck a few choice items, here and there) instead of a bucket (which demands that you empty it)."

> „I’ll cut to the chase: 50 million requests costs $12,000, a figure far more than I ever could have imagined.

Apollo made 7 billion requests last month, which would put it at about 1.7 million dollars per month…“ → https://eay.li/3mm

What helps you if you’re completely stressed out before an important milestone like publishing a major piece of work or giving a talk? Any strategies, mantras, or quirky behaviors that (seem to) work for you?

eay,
@eay@eay.social avatar

@matthiasott When I once despaired before a lecture, my wife reassured me that only I would know the scope and depth of my explanations. If I could not include them in full due to time constraints, no one but me would know, she said.

That has helped me immensely ever since.

Modern programming languages are weak. What's with all this "try" nonsense? There is no try. I want a language with a "do { ... } or else" construct. That'll get the machine to obey.

If you wanted to see a tour of Pro’s features without the marketing fluff, this today’s video is for you 😁

TLDR: as far as I can tell, nothing has been removed from free users (unless you were using the Raycast AI beta, but that was always known to be coming), and the Pro sub just adds some new things. Is it worth it for you? I don't know, but I'd say the AI bit is the key value add here.

@matt Yep. I’ve been using the AI beta for the last couple of weeks and it has become an indispensable tool for my workflow already. Therefore, I immediately subscribed to their new Pro version yesterday.

Apple platforms developers reply with a link to your app and I will:

  1. Download your app
  2. Give it 5 stars
  3. Leave a thoughtful review

eay,
@eay@eay.social avatar

@kern Ha, this is nice! Feel free to check out my day counter app @yonks if you like: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/yonks/id1382419586

I’ll send you a promo code via DM. If anyone else wants to check it out, please just contact me. ☺️

I’m working on the next major version right now but until then it’s fine to test the current version, I guess. 😅

eay,
@eay@eay.social avatar

@tapforms @kern @yonks Good point, thx. Then I’ll just take good old feedback via Mastodon. :)

eay,
@eay@eay.social avatar

@onlinegoddess @kern @yonks Ha, I share this obsession and because there weren’t any apps that appealed to me, I created Yonks back in 2018/2019. I’m currently rewriting the old tech stack, which will allow me to a support more modern OS features and, yeah, widgets, too. :)

eay,
@eay@eay.social avatar

@onlinegoddess @tapforms @kern @yonks Thank you for purchasing Yonks!

I will add you to the v2 beta, when it’s ready. And I’ve added light mode to my feature request list. Wasn't planned before and hasn't made it to the list yet, but actually sounds like a good idea, because I want the v2 to give the users more possibilities to customize Yonks. :)

Now, this is super interesting. Last night, I asked how people display on their () sites. I already got a few really good answers, including e.g. the sites of @sia, @nhoizey, and @andy. 🙏

But now, I want more. 😁 And I’ll write a summary (with details), of course.

Have you seen a Webmention implementation with great UX or anything that looks like a great best practice? LMK below!

@matthiasott Late answer, but I show them as written out texts between the regular comments and replies. No avatars, since we once discussed at a @btconf IndieWebCamp that this could be legally problematic.
