Wondering if anyone else has had an issue with the #Hidock app not working after waking from sleep. My current fix for this is a #Raycast script that restarts the program.
PS. @rafa, I love the apps. :)
I don’t see the cool kids (outside of Reddit) talking about #Raycast much. I used Launchbar for years and enthusiastically switched last November. Raycast just does so much: AI interface, image conversion, translation, posting to social media, emoji picking etc. Why do the intelligentsia reject it?
Wow, in #Raycast I can type 215k euro / 26m2 in dollars and it properly understands the question and nicely formats it to $8 852,67/m². BTW real estate is sooo expensive...
Thinking of switching my launcher of from Quicksilver, which I've had since 2010, to #raycast. What are your fave ways to use it? @milesmcbain@hrbrmstr
I have this little thing I’d love to do with a keyboard shortcut - does anyone know a way of doing this on the #Mac? (I use #Raycast and #Setapp, so preferably something there. I «fear» this is #TextExpander or #KeyboardMaestro territory, though.)
I mark some text.
I click the hotkey.
«/» gets added before the selection, «/» gets added after.
Deselects.
Anyone?
(Yes, this is for quickly commenting out stuff in #CSS - but can probably be used for more as well!)
So, back to playing with #Raycast. I wonder if there’s a way/extension to allow the saving of a window’s current position (actually, the position of ALL windows on the screen as a kind of snapshot) and then just restoring that with a hotkey.
Hands-down, the most useful part of ChatGPT is translating the borderline incomprehensible English from our JIRA issues, written by SMEs who barely speak English, into something that I can actually read.
For this, I use a Raycast AI command with a pretty short prompt.
@czottmann I’ve used #Raycast for several months now and I still don’t quite get along with its model. Not sure if its my aging brain or if it’s a poor model 😅 E.g. I keep doing stuff like “define someword”, meaning when I pick the “define” command it looks up the word “define”. I theoretically know multiple Raycast ways of doing it but they’re still not muscle memory.
If you wanted to see a tour of #Raycast Pro’s features without the marketing fluff, this today’s video is for you 😁
TLDR: as far as I can tell, nothing has been removed from free users (unless you were using the Raycast AI beta, but that was always known to be coming), and the Pro sub just adds some new things. Is it worth it for you? I don't know, but I'd say the AI bit is the key value add here.
Raycast announced their pro plan for individuals, and it is all their new AI features, plus a few minor tweaks.
To me, it feels like they still have their free app, and now they’re offering a completely separate app for $8/month, just bundled into the same binary.
It's impressive that Apple's own emoji picker (ctrl+cmd+space or 🌐 globe key) is flaky enough (is this just me?) that I tend to use the #Raycast “Search Emoji” command instead.
Maybe I should remap ctrl+cmd+space to that picker, actually.
This evening, I configured #raycast with hotkeys for window management. It’s all dialed in and works great! Here’s how I’ve set it up:
Option-1: Left half
Option-3: Right half
Option-4: Lower left corner
Option-5: center
Option-6: Lower right corner
Option-7: Upper left corner
Option-9: Upper right corner
Option-2: move to previous display
Option-8: move to next display
@krishnadraws "Almost maximized" is also a real good one. I think I'll spend this "option + 8" cause I don't work too often with a lot of displays.. #raycast is getting better and better ☺️
