@adamsdesk Thanks for your code in the first place! I tried investigating why it wasn't working on my Mac Mini M1, but I'm not well versed enough to figure it out... I was learning bash along the way! Thinking about it now; could it be related to read / write permissions?

@kepano password and 2fa vaults, contacts (email/phone), most meaningful photos, latest important documents only in digital format like your CV, finance or tax docs. And hope the digital fire you say won't spread to the cloud backups! :blobcatonfire:

Following my Debian Bookworm installation a few days ago on an old HP Slimline PC, I realised that the CPU actually supports 64-bit! The copy of Windows 7 was 32-bit and I didn't check before installing the i386 version of ... I'm gonna buy two 2GB DDR3 ram so I meet the requirements of 4GB to install ...

@array Hell yeah! My lowest spec old tech was the HP Mini netbook with 1gb ram, ran antix so well, totally revived the deathly slow Windows 7 Starter edition....

I've always used SD cards for all my cameras, a handful of HDD/ SSDs and Sandisk flash drives. Touch wood, I've not had any fail. From now on I'll probably buy other brands for memory. Been enjoying and products quite a bit lately! I also wanna try products in the future as I've read good reviews.

What's your go to memory brand?

@vwbusguy I used to buy and sell on r/pen_swap, but I'm also unsure how it is in the past few years; especially after the downfall of Reddit. I believe IG is a good place to sell your unused pens as the fp community seems relatively active still. I ought to do the same but the quantity is putting me off selling my collection too... GLWS!

Time to put some new ink in my A2 after shimming the tines a bit. Have been getting some ink flow issues with . What a great yet cheap alternative to my favourite series! Inking it with my favourite Sailor waterproof black ink.

@paradoxmo I am very out of date in the fountain pen world for the past 4 or 5 years... This A2 is the only fountain pen I bought this year! I can use it without worrying about scratches or dings like my vintage VPs. But the Moonman / Majohn nib is a bit boring. Hard to beat the gold Pilot VP nibs....

Dug out my "worse piece of tech", the HP Mini 210-1100 netbook (1GB ddr3, Intel Atom, 1.66 GHz, 250GB HDD). It was a gift–I remember using it and the dreaded lag/frustration with Windows 7 Starter kinda drove me insane. Haven't used it since 2010. Until today that is! I installed antiX-base 32bit Linux and it has been much less laggy and actually usable! Reviving (13yr) old tech is always fun!

@danct12 Thanks! Yeah surprisingly it does hold charge. I have booted it to check if it still works 4 or 5 years ago and charged it to about 40%. I'm gonna be using it plugged in without the battery anyway as a beginner "server" to learn how to SSH and stuff. (Before I get my hands on a , excited!)

@danct12 Yeah I also read they're going to clear the backlog... to be honest I can find retail price Rpi4B 8gb rev. 5 but not rev. 9. I think I'll wait a bit longer (October time) to get the latest version. I don't work in IT so everything is very new to me. I'm interested in self-hosting / home lab projects so I'm hoping to learn enough to do that!

Is it worth overpaying for extra RAM in laptops that cannot be upgraded later? 8GB? 16GB? 32GB? 64GB? 128GB? What are your bare minimum requirements these days?
