Did I miss something in the sky, last night?

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@BarneyDellar
I was late home, and didn't think to look. There was a clear sky.

I'm seeing lots of folk posting pictures of the aurora.

@Jkp
Right.
[makes mental note to go looking to-night]

Loads of posts about the aurora. Not seeing any from the Highlands though.

Got talking to a biker guy, last night. He told me he has been on the carnivore diet for the last two years. When he started this diet he weighed 178kg (~28 stone). He now weighs 88kg (~14 stone). He is only half the man he was!

His before and after photos were even more impressive.

Who knows?

fitheach,

@Jkp
The thinking is that the needed nutrients are in the meat of one's diet. For that to work it needs to be grass fed meat.

My ex is a carnivore. She seems to be healthy.

"The state of the [] movement in 2024 reminds me of 2017 when Sturgeon decided to “take independence off the table” at the Scottish Parliamentary elections and totally scunnered SNP members.

I remember hearing reports of “indy-free” leaflets arriving from HQ and being binned by angry activists" -- Lesley Riddoch

Creating the post was a symbolic gesture by Sturgeon. Dropping the post is a symbolic gesture by Swinney.

Photographed in a backpackers hostel in Te Wai Pounamu. The text reads;

"The truth about using HostelWorld and booking.com

  • they take 15% of your payment -
    Try always to book directly with the hostel or hotel
    Owners of booking sites live in luxury and don't do any work"

There's one of "them" near Cullen, Scotland. Although, that one might be bigger. 😃

It's been nearly a year since I photographed the rock at Cullen. So, I'm a bit hazy about the exact size. My guesstimate: about 4-5m tall.

Oh cool. OCaml 5, which came out 2 years ago, had a big update adding multicore support.

I became aware because 5.2 RC 1 is out just now.

OCaml is still on my to-learn list.

The Greens were the biggest winners in the local elections, so why aren’t they getting fair air time? https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2024/05/07/the-greens-were-the-biggest-winners-in-the-local-elections-so-why-arent-they-getting-fair-air-time/
Proportionately, the Greens won most seats at the recent local elections, but they are denied airtime, and we get Reform instead. Why?

> that England & Wales would be the "continuing state" of the UK, with Scotland as a new state, so would keep the name, flag, UN seat, treaty obligations, etc.

Do you know what? In return for our independence they are welcome to keep the lot. We can start with a clean slate.

Oh, and the nuclear subs can go, too.

@HighlandLawyer
Difficult to tell for sure, but, I suspect rUK would be motivated mostly by prestige, the UN security council seat in particular. A desire to continue being "Great" expressed in political form.

The reality of that decision might take many years to sink in. Governments (parties) rarely think beyond the next election.

At long last, I've done it.

I've registered my .scot domain.
http://fitheach.scot

I've been meaning to do this for years. Thankfully, no-one else thought to register the domain, in the meantime.

In the next few days I'll move the website to the new domain. At the moment the .scot redirects to .co.uk

I'll keep both domains, with the .scot as the primary domain for all my activities.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

"... the next few days" was wildly optimistic. 😃 All done now (or, at least, I think so).

Moving the current website to a new domain was a lot of work. Changes to the (Pelican) website was the least effort. It is all the little jobs around the edges that takes time. Like getting my verified tick on Mastodon. 😃

All I need to do now is remind myself to enter the address with .scot rather than .co.uk. I'll have to work against my fingers going into autopilot.

@Jkp
True to the national stereotype, the only thing holding me back all these years was the £40 p.a. domain cost. I decided to splash out this year.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@withaveeay
I'm pretty sure there is no technical reason for the inflated cost of .scot domains. There might be some economies of scale for the more popular domains, such as .co.uk. Although, I suspect the .scot registrar set the price at what the market would bear.

@Jkp

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@Jkp
I'm retaining both domains. The co.uk is a pittance, so, may as well keep it. Although, getting rid of a UK has its attractions. 😃

@withaveeay

@Jkp
Only possible when you have your own domain.

@withaveeay

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@edavies
True, but, it is a lot easier with your own domain. I run an MTA (Exim) for all of my domains. I use virtual domain text files for each of them. Each file contains recipient address and target address mappings. Creating or deleting an email address only requires adding or deleting a line in those files.

The target addresses don't have to be one of my "real" email addresses.
