Will have to wait to finish the coffee to find the gold bar at the bottom. It's the only reason I can think if for the cost...

Are there any constraints on preview cards for mastodon?

I note that for my photo pages on my site I'm not getting previews, but I am for other pages I post, both made in pretty much the same way with the same tags.

I threw the photo page into an Open Graph validator and it rendered fine. I couldn't see anything to indicate size issues in the mastodon docs.

Perhaps it just thinks my photos are bad :)

The closing of the tag is right next to the quote. Can you try the it with a space?

At this monthโ€™s partner/spousal bereavement support group, the topic came up of all of the moments of discovery or delight that are made more profound or joyful by having someone to turn to and share them with. This include big moments (like experiencing the recent eclipse), little moments (like learning a piece of trivia), commonplace events that are suddenly precious (like spending time with oneโ€™s children or grandchildren), and striking events whose meaning or appropriate response is hard to grasp (like finding an injured bird).

The absence of a kindred spirit who is committed to deeply knowing us forces us to find a new way of knowing ourselves and of making daily life still feel real, surprising, or enjoyable. Itโ€™s hard to stay buoyant and avoid taking ourselves too seriously without someone around interrupting our own thoughts with their silly and surprising observations.

That's good to hear.

I just saw the discussion about your trip. I didn't want to contribute at this late stage, as I thought you'd probably made plans already.

How long do you have?

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@alysonsee
That sounds like a plan. There are plenty of things to see and do on Skye. Don't feel tempted to try to see everything in the Highlands. It isn't possible, and you'll return home exhausted.
Accommodation is always at a premium on Skye in the summer. Get your skates on and book. Portree would be a good base.

I learned to drive in a III Series Land Rover. This was slightly before my tractor driving.

The Land Rover didn't have power steering either. It didn't need it.

Calling all ThinkPad users.

A while back, I sprayed sparkling mineral water all over my ThinkPad keyboard. Despite drying it immediately, the keyboard always malfunctioned after that incident.

I purchased a replacement keyboard from TellusRem, as they are considerably cheaper than the Lenovo originals.

I can report that the TellusRem keyboard is every bit as good as the original.

Effectively, these are new keyboards, as the ribbon cables, other electrics and the backing has been replaced. The keys may be refurbished, but, strangely, the lettering has been re-printed (I think), as the font looks different, compared to the original.

I've spent an interesting hour or two researching cordless vacuum cleaners. Yes, my life really is that exciting. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

It's possible to spend hundreds of pounds on models from the high-profile brands. I've decided on a Russell Hobbs Centaur 2 in 1, which I got for ยฃ69, incl. delivery. Time will tell if it is any good. Although, at less than half the price of some other models, it is hard to see how it can go wrong.

The war against dog hair continues...

The best thing (so far) about the new vacuum cleaner is the flashing lights when charging the battery. It looks like a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I'm really excited! I've just purchased tickets to see Eddi Reader in concert at The Perth Concert Hall. The gig is on Sunday, April 21st, 2024. This will be the first time I've seen her perform.

A review, hopefully with photos, will follow shortly afterwards.

Eddi Reader & band
Perth Concert Hall
April 21 2024

It was a superb concert with fine musicianship, superlative singing, and many humorous anecdotes. None of that was a surprise. Eddi is a one-off.

The songs were mostly her own repertoire, which included traditional, folk and pop. Although, the accompaniment was entirely acoustic. She also cited ร‰dith Piaf as an influence, and proceeded to do an over-the-top impersonation.

The gig started on time, lasted ~135 mins, with no encore.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

We were seated in the balcony front row. which gave us an excellent view, albeit rather far away. I was rather surprised that the venue hadn't sold out. The stalls were full, but, the balcony only had a few hardy souls in addition to us.

Eddi complimented Scotland as being a fine country, and listed some of her favourite places. She then said she wasn't so sure about Edinburgh. No doubt that anecdote will be amended when she plays Edinburgh's Queen's Hall in a few days time. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

As far as I know, she has never stopped touring. That said, this is the first time I've seen her in concert.
