Apparently Apple Music for Mac has rabid fanbois (they are all men. All of them) and they are on Threads?! Of all the truly shitty products to stan, you want to defend Apple Music on the Mac?! I’ll defend Apple Music on iOS, even tho sync is a shit show, but on the desktop?! Man normies are weird.
@film_girl
Apple Music is trash on every platform (iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS), and I say that as a subscriber. Infuriatingly bad user interface, seemingly designed by people who don't actually listen to music. In fact it seems designed by people who long for the days of listening to music on commercial radio. Almost as bad as the Apple TV UI.
@film_girl@waltman
Putting aside your own music library, consider for a moment discovering new music from artists you follow. Sure, AM can show notifications for each new release. But amazingly there's no way to see a list of latest releases from artists you follow in reverse chronological order. And then there's the convoluted, disorienting, and illogical navigation throughout the app.
@daringfireball
Holy shit, you really seem to be on a mission to outdo every bad take with an even worse one… all while demonstrating a shocking lack of self-awareness for overpaid blogger who hasn’t held a real job in over a decade.
I think I've narrowed down my small backpack search to the Aer Go Pack 2, Aer Pro Pack Slim, and the Fjallraven Ulvo. Any opinions, particularly around how small they pack and how well they protect your laptop, gimme 😛
@christianselig
I have two Aer sling bags. Though I can't speak for the laptop protection on their larger bags, I highly recommend them in general for their excellent materials, design, and quality.
I mean, yes, you need padding or your arse bones are going to scream at you with any real riding.
So. Why aren’t the saddles properly padded for that? Why do cyclists instead have a saddle that would ruin an arse faster than a session at the local bdsm emporium, and instead choose to wear shorts and trousers that look like you’ve previously had your arse destroyed at the local bdsm emporium and now wear diapers.
@mattwilcox
Lots of bikes come with saddles that are optimized for weight, on mountain and road bikes mainly. But there are lots of alternatives that have softer gel padding.
Aside from weight savings, I think the idea is you shouldn't put all your weight on your butt all the time, but balance some of it on your feet/pedals.
So, after a lot of faffing around yesterday evening I did finally get the bike cleaned up and onto the new trainer. I did 26min riding before 10pm came and I decided that was that. I havent ridden a bike in (literally) years.
Oh, you need a fan.
It's fun!
Oh god my legs, my legs
The bike wants a service, it's noisy on this "silent" trainer.
It's absolutely possible. But millions of people had strong reasons to use iPhones even before there were any apps, and then also before the apps were plentiful or compelling.
The customers were already there.
The challenge Apple faces with AVP is getting enough people to buy (and keep using) a device type that they weren't already buying (headsets), which is VERY expensive and limited, to accumulate enough customers for the content and software ecosystem to develop. https://mas.to/@DrewTheLoud/112276696057829298
@marcoarment@DrewTheLoud
The first iPhone was awesome despite its many limitations. First usable mobile web browser. First usable AND free mobile street maps and directions (including wifi-based approximate location while indoors.) Visual voicemail. Not to mention the eagerly anticipated “wide screen iPod” and the delightful touch UI. Even the fact that you didn't have to pay for ringtones was revolutionary.
@film_girl@stooovie@brianhough
Even then, it will mainly appeal to the subset of the market that enjoys consuming content while isolated from others. This largely makes it a non-starter for couples, families, etc for that purpose. Also a bad time for media consumption when the quality of content is going downhill.
@stooovie@film_girl@brianhough
I like the idea of simulating a theater movie-viewing experience even for non-3D content. But the cost, size, weight, and difficulty in sharing with others makes it unappealing for that purpose.
@dangillmor
I sense there are some ethical and progressive folks at NPR but your reporting will always be tainted when you get your funding from the Koch’s and Gates’s.
It's all well and good that Safari is doing faster on synthetic benchmarks, but the fact that it still locks up multiple times a day on little-known websites such as /TikTok/ kinda tempers my excitement, you know?
As discussed on the latest Core Intuition (https://coreint.org/2024/04/episode-594-dreams-and-hopes/), my big hope for Apple's "Absolutely Incredible" WWDC is they lean hard into local, "smaller large language models." It's their wheelhouse. Imagine a Spotlight that could reflect the contents of your Mac as if it were all ChatGPT cared about.
