"Rosin listened to the screen reader, a tool to help him go through an online list of upcoming events at the club. However, he was confused when the audio described a toilet as it went through the schedule. He discovered later that the image of bullet points used for the list had prompted the mistake.

He told the club, which had installed AI-driven software on its website that automatically creates image descriptions for screen readers, about the slip."

First gig for which we were provided a green room. Which was just a flat two doors down from the venue with one green wall and some odd decor.

Grey carpet with one section covered in a weird fake moss/plant thing.

I would like to join @ellyloel in willing the term "web designer" back into existence. Personally, I hate how "frontend developer" became a thing and suddenly someone else was responsible for design. "You can code? You're a developer, put the typography and the colors down!" People can do more than one thing sometimes. Not always.

@dotproto @ellyloel "web designer", to me, is UI, UX, writing, in code.

Which covers this post from a wheelchair user who had to hack his wheelchair to get basic features:

Because Alber’s ‘Mobility Plus Package’ locks features (like speed control) behind a payment:

Just saw somebody on a mailing list describe “AI” sceptics as performative contrarians and I guess they mean people like me. 🤷‍♂️

heydon,
@heydon@front-end.social avatar

@baldur I mean... writing is a form of performance. All writing. Including writing puff for AI "advancements". As for the "contrarian" part, they just mean "questions my doctrine".

@DavidDarnes Worst thing I've seen today and I was told by Oracle J couldn't submit an invoice because it's "year-end" so I have to wait.

10 years after I wrote the article, folks are still talking about the "lobotomized owl" like that is a perfectly normal name for a thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thzhaYW_bn0

heydon,
@heydon@front-end.social avatar

(FWIW, I just call it the "owl selector" now since lobotomies are a rather disturbing concept.)

Okay, so, without losing any media or with any noticeable reduction in quality, I've got my client’s homepage from 5.2MB down to 130KB. Just webp conversion + stripping out the extraneous JavaScript and CSS.
