Boosting because that person is still struggling and looking for work! If there is some onsite work in Portugal - they are also happy to do it!

I love how the Category Theory textbook that I’m reading pulls somewhat advanced concepts from adjacent fields as examples with little to no introduction at all, and later draws on them and puts them in the exercises.

Ah, the sound of fans on Intel laptops. I almost missed it.

Status Update: reinstalling OS on Framework Laptop. After: building electron (wish me luck and patience)

The cold that I got earlier this week didn't yet relent, and I feel bad enough that I'm considering watching Rebel Moon Part 2. Please send help 😅

(jk, it's not that bad rn, but if it gets there - I'll share what it was like watching it)

Love the LLL application in a seemingly unrelated context:
https://github.com/spawnmason/randar-explanation/blob/master/README.md

Last time I had to deal with LLL was when I was re-deriving the GLV basis for secp256k1. One day I'll actually fully understand how LLL reduction works, but probably... not today :ac_joy:

I didn't really enjoy "The Three-Body Problem" book. Partly due to Deus ex machina that the author pulls to explain the mystery introduced, but mostly because it was completely toothless and pointless in the light of serious topics that it brought (especially the Cultural Revolution).

For whatever reason I had I decided to give the Netflix show a try, and... it is also pretty terrible, IMO! The first scene was directed rather well, and the acting was top notch (except for the girl…

Big news for an avid SF reader!

@gregeganSF 's new book Morphotrophic is out and can be purchased as a DRM-free epub from: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/1541765

I got mine already, and you should get yours! :ablobcatwink:

Can't wait to begin reading it later today.

Watched Dune Part 2 yesterday. It was pretty decent (except maybe the complete absence of any chemistry whatsoever between Paul and Chani), but the big surprise was that they fit in the rest of the first book into a single movie? I honestly was prepared for a third movie to cover it, but it sounds like they are going to rush it since they already casted Anya Taylor-Joy for Alia who doesn't get much time until book three?

Having some fun time playing with react-reconciler. Not sure if this idea will come to fruition, but I'm hoping to at least get it into a demo-able shape.

TIL Not only what wheel bite is by definition, but what it actually is in reality. Not fun!

I need to get myself smaller wheels.

Thinking about replacing my guitar with a headless one yet again. Any recommendations?

So far I wonder whether to go on a lower end with Ibanez Q, or go with Kiesel/Strandberg. Maybe there are better brands?

Finally I found a good use case for the return value of yield statement in a JS generator: a very tiny bit-stream parser: https://gist.github.com/indutny/d7ad488cb8ba3264df9c270b711c46ed

I might be able to write a sufficiently simple DEFLATE parser with this without too much pain!

What do you think?

I have a friend in EU, who is in a particularly tough spot in their life and is searching for either permanent or contract UI/UX design work.

If you are looking for a designer, or know someone who might be interested - please send me a DM!

Thank you!

Just published a fun new package for those of you who use electron-builder or otherwise blockmaps and differential updates: https://github.com/indutny/rezip-electron

The gist of it is that you could compress .asar file in zlib chunks, one for each subfile in the asar. When you do it this way - the resulting diff between two Electron app installers can become 3x times smaller depending on how large your asar file is!

For us it means that we could drop update size on macOS from 10mb to 3mb in some cases.

Navalny’s death feels like a devastating blow to the hopes of democracy, fair elections, and the end of war with Ukraine. As always Putin has decided to get rid of his opponents right before the election, but even though cynically a lot of us expected this to happen. Facing the reality of this happening is not something I was prepared to.

I don’t know what’s the way forward with the state of affairs in Russia, and if anything can happen before the demise of the current leader…

Just had a throwback experience while debugging Node.js streams with @jamiebuilds . We got to the bottom of it ultimately, but I got reminded about how much time I spent trying to fix bugs in streams when I was actively working on Node.js core.

Fun stuff!

Does anyone who still works at npmjs.org follow me?

I’ve discovered that config field in package.json isn't provided by the registry server for the abbreviated response (“application/vnd.npm.install-v1+json" content-type), which means that npm_package_config_* are never set for a package fetched from the registry, but would be set for package installed from a local directory. This breaks some scripts that we have when using npm, but not when using yarn.

Some further Mother-32 experiments. This time I'm varying LFO frequency based on EG curve to make soundscape-like effects. Now to put reverb and add DFAM on top of that!
