Remember that blog post "I got robbed of my first kernel contribution" where a maintainer slightly rewrote a patch and took credit for it? Well, I decided to do something about it.

This is a reminder that .gz files (and deflate compressed files in general) can in the best case compress the data 1:1024. If you are accepting 10Mb files from untrusted sources - be ready for them to unpack in up to 10Gb in case you get malicious dataI

Navalny’s death feels like a devastating blow to the hopes of democracy, fair elections, and the end of war with Ukraine. As always Putin has decided to get rid of his opponents right before the election, but even though cynically a lot of us expected this to happen. Facing the reality of this happening is not something I was prepared to.

I don’t know what’s the way forward with the state of affairs in Russia, and if anything can happen before the demise of the current leader…

The only complaint about Starfield that I have so far is regarding the absence of local map. I spent perhaps 20 minutes trying to locate a shop that sells lockpicks. The level design is kind of convoluted, and there is no navigational aid for non-quest locations.

Did anyone found a way to deal with it?

This week concluded a deep journey into TCP protocol for me.

It all started with users reporting slow message sends earlier this year, which in the submitted debug logs appeared to look like outgoing requests timing out. Reporters suggested that there might be a pattern to it, and indeed the more we looked the more it appeared that they were most affected during some times of the day.

We built a tool to layer debug logs on top of each other and the pattern just immediately popped at us.

Level 13 of #wanikani !

I'm about to get my first burned items (radicals from Level 1), so technically I should be around the peak of number things that I need to keep in short term memory at the same time! With that in mind, I had what I think of as, a "restructuring" week. A lot of kanji/vocabulary has similar pronunciation so had to slow down to 10 new lessons per day and make a lot of mistakes, but all to get a more solid picture of kanjis!
