Can anyone tell me why @nostarch uses this weird typographical convention:

I think this just looks really odd, like the result of a "paste with formatting" error. This plus the huge chapter number, graphics, inspirational quote (in another different font size), ragged typesetting, ... make for a very uneasy read.

I'm certainly not new or inexperienced when it comes to CCC & Chaos related stuff, but the whole situation is confusing af even for me.

fireshonks.de is like "has been canceled, we won't say why or what happened", however the VOC Pretalx instance is like "yeah here's the schedule, have fun". The FireShonks Mastodon posted "won't take place as planned", then goes on to advertise some of the upcoming talks without any explanation whatsoever.

And I'm like "srsly wtf folks …"

The attack is being mitigated and tracked in the following CVEs:

  • CVE-2023-51764 postfix
  • CVE-2023-51765 sendmail
  • CVE-2023-51766 exim

All three CVEs have been filed today by the community and NOT by SEC consult who discovered the flaw in June 2023 but decided to not share their findings with postfix, sendmail or exim. Only after they published their post on 2023-12-18, the communities have become aware and are now working hard to fix what is now more a 0day :(

need to create a commit & then make some more changes

you could

• exit Vim, git commit, enter Vim

• open a :terminal in Vim, commit there

• use a plugin like fugitive to commit from inside Vim

• open a new terminal (either locally & run ssh a second time, or by using a new split or window in a server-side multiplexer like tmux)

• send Vim to the background using Ctrl-Z, commit, then run "fg" to get it back

I just did the latter, and it felt kinda nice actually
