I'm just going to say it, and we can agree to disagree if you do in fact disagree...

systemd has categorically made Linux better in basically every way imaginable

It's earnestly cool if you don't agree but it's really really good

I pay monthly to support @Tusky and @fosstodon because I thoroughly enjoy both. I highly recommend everyone support their favorite open source clients and instances. ❤️

Dear junior to mid career technologists,

You deserve to be here, you are good enough. The imposter syndrome is normal. Try to find comfort in knowing you are not alone, we all experience imposter syndrome and for most of us it never fully goes away. I am a Distinguished Engineer at Red Hat, have over 20 years experience, a BS and MS of Computer Science, multiple patents pending, and I still have that feeling sometimes. You are not alone. You do belong. We are a community. Be kind to yourself ❤️

I get the feeling too many people are sleeping on CentOS Stream because of how the CentOS EOL thing went down.

I mean sure, the messaging wasn't great but it happened and it is what it is. Don't let that detract from the greatness of the Stream project in its own right and as a collaboration point for all the based distros.

The gravity seems lost on most that for the first time ever the RHEL development process happens in the open. That's amazing. I love it.

Watching talking heads on YouTube say false things, that can be proven false, to justify their hot takes and increase appeal of their click bait is .... frustrating.

I'm back on RHEL for all my computers, I'm done messing around with weird inconsistencies and unexpected changes in updates. I love the innovation of upstream and all the wonderful madness of the bazaar, but I don't have time to drink from the fire hose these days.

I'm super grateful for all the exceptional and hard work the RHEL team at Red Hat does and the Fedora EPEL community. ❤️

Love you wonderful humans, stay awesome!

There is truly so much amazing Free/Libre Open Source Software out there ... I continue to be in awe at how frequently I learn about new FLOSS tech I didn't know about that is earnestly fascinating. SO GOOD. ❤️

Can we sit back and appreciate the engineering work that went into making Linux in a vm + container sandbox work properly in ChromeOS with file sharing and Wayland passthrough?

https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromiumos/docs/+/HEAD/containers_and_vms.md#Overview

All of this tech is open source and developed upstream in the open. It's objectively not super applicable outside of the ChromeOS use case but it is noteworthy and interesting.

The new Linux phone from Jolla & its benefits? ⛵ :linux:

◉Sailfish OS - the only independent commercial mobile OS
◉Sailfish is NOT 100% closed source - Jolla plans to open the remaining blobs
◉More "Linuxy" than Android; Qt / Wayland / filesystem
◉Free of Google / Apple
◉Use Android compatibility in case an :android: app is needed
◉Jolla is a Finnish company - 🇫🇮 / 🇮🇸 are considered most trustworthy nations in Europe

@Linux they won't ship to the USA, same as all their products since the failed attempt at a tablet years ago. ☹️

@Linux @Kernellinux can't buy any of their products though, software or hardware.

The number one reason I buy a new laptop is battery life, not performance. Maybe I'm a tiny minority of the market and nobody will make one but I would love to see a good solid premium device with a big battery and something like an Intel Core i3-N305 that has nothing but efficiency cores but still decent performance. Then paired with power saving components, fwupd support, and upstream Linux kernel support with like 15+ hours of real world battery life. I'd pay illogical money for such a device

@Conan_Kudo @carlwgeorge can either of you think of any reason I either should not switch from RHEL to CentOS Stream on my desktop/laptops or any considerations I should be thinking of that I might be missing?

In my mind I'm just going to get the new patches faster from a different build system signed by a different gpg key. I also don't have to deal with subman. Am I missing some big consideration I'm not thinking about? I'm nervous I have a blind spot. 🤔

@acdingman @Conan_Kudo @carlwgeorge the slow moving base system is a feature and I'm a fan. YMMV. 🙂

@acdingman @Conan_Kudo @carlwgeorge totally fair and understandable, fortunately we have options! 😁
