Asking for opinions: is creating a novelization of a media (which would technically be a massive fanfic) worth doing if you're not interested in engaging with the media's fandom community at large (bad experiences)?

Like, obviously it wouldn't ever make money or be portfolio material, and the social side wouldn't be there (I'd probably post it off AO3, self-host maybe, would disable comments) so I'm struggling with "what would be the point"

Moved from someone else's thread because it was off topic, but "what server do I join" is... a mess. Even if one comes well-recommended, it can be a bad fit for any given individual. I love where I'm at now, but it did take me a while to get here.

It's definitely a racism problem because being BIPOC (which I'm not!) makes "finding where I fit" harder, AND it's also a problem of fragmentation over centralization, and what centralization does exist being centralized around large instances.

Boiling hot take inspired by the reply thread I just did: I think one of the best things that could help people be better consumers of media (and better at recognizing fakes/being manipulated/AI/etcetera) is wider access to graphic design knowledge/photography knowledge.

IMO, this should be taught in high school as required for everyone along with media literacy.

If you work with and know how tropes, staging, font design, etc actually work, you will have that awareness of said tactics

Literally all of the #LosAngeles area is under life-threatening #flood risk. The NWS does NOT throw "Particularly Dangerous Situation" around for fun.

This is VERY serious - if you're anywhere in the LA area (or in SoCal in general now) beware of flood/mudslide conditions near your area - be able to receive warnings and ready to #evacuate if you need to do so!
