“Aljazeera World” is a very impressive documentaries series, with lots of original content exploring . Edward Said’s documentary “Out of Place” (2006) aired couple of days ago. It comes across somewhat hagiographical… with many of his colleagues singing his praise, including Noam Chomsky, Rashid Khalidi, Ilan Pappe and more.

What caught my eye was the archive material, especially audio/visual from his family home in upscale Talbiya (الطالبية, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in still today) which make the phrase “A land without a people for a people without a land” (which was allegedly coined by a Christian ) sound VERY cruel.

@timnitGebru btw this tone is not different in the Netherlands where I lived for a while. Many Dutch people can’t even wrap their heads around the fact that a non white person who’s naturalized could be Dutch. Recently had a very disturbing chat with a Sudanese Uber driver, who acknowledged how traumatized he was living there for a while. And this is a country that exported Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Anyone who spent some time editing the Zionist Wikipedia (aka Hebrew Wikipedia) knows the accounts who were exposed in the article attached, are just the tip of the iceberg. There are literally tens of accounts behaving in a very similar manner: twisting articles one sentence at a time, removing content or distorting it, making the Hebrew Wikipedia a the single biggest source of on anything from The -Palestinian conflict, to , , , and more.

Here's an excerpt from an investigation into Policy Forum, the funded conservative "Think Tank" behind the judicial hostile takeover attempt.

This style of slowly shifting the narrative (via hundreds of little edits) is typical of many entries I've been involved with. It's endemic. The Israeli @wikimediafoundation is aware of what's happening, the bureaucrats are aware as well... and yet nothing was ever done.

In the Hebrew Wikipedia article about the Israel Democracy Institute, a pro-democracy think tank that is critical of Kohelet, one of the fake users added that it was a “left-wing organization” and deleted a sentence stating that one of the institute’s goals is to act “to strengthen Israel’s still-emerging democratic institutions.”

About the Palestinian children Israel sent to jail. An edited extract from “A Day in the Life of Abed Salama: A Palestine Story”, published by Allen Lane on 3 October.

“In her work as a doctor with , the UN relief and works agency for Palestinian refugees, Huda saw things that made her afraid for her sons. She had witnessed a soldier shoot a boy who threw a stone at a tank. The soldiers stopped her from going to help him as he fell to the ground. At home in Sawahre, listening to the nightly news of West Bank killings and closures, she had trouble sleeping. She knew Hadi was out throwing stones.”

A view of the pre-1948 Palestinian village of Bayt Mahsir in the Al-Quds subdistrict, Palestine, in 1932. 🇵🇸

The village was depopulated by invading Zionist militias during the 1948

oatmeal,
@oatmeal@emacs.ch avatar

@WahbAllat I love to compare the Zionist Wikipedia (under control of right wing activists in the last 10 years or so) entries in Hebrew, with various other languages. The states the “reason for depopulation” of most Palestinian villages as “abandonment”, never military assault, or massacre, which were commonly performed by militia forces. They actually have custom metadata fields ready for “reason” and “date” of “abandonment” of any village. Epistemic violence on the Wikipedia is almost a standard these days.

@tzafrir @WahbAllat @palestine @israel @wikipedia dear zafrir, I’ve been in enough editing wars to know what happens … they’ve simply not been discovered yet. Try editing one and see what happens. If you’re THE zafrir from the Hebrew Wikipedia you’re also part of the problem as an operator that enables the settlers, btw.

oatmeal,
@oatmeal@emacs.ch avatar

@tzafrir @WahbAllat @palestine @israel @wikipedia we were both involved in an edit of one of these articles where your right wing moderator friend used the opportunity when someone tried to update an entry to remove all references to settler violence and locked the entry for editing. You supported that decision. I’m pretty sure it’s still locked. The Hebrew Wikipedia is so far off of any other version it’s absurd. There many more articles which are not favorable to the Zionist narrative, they were simply not discovered yet. Benny Morris is the source of the information presented in the English version but not used in the Hebrew one.

———

Bayt Mahsir was depopulated on May 10–May 11, 1948, after a military assault by Yishuv forces.[4][23][24][25] Two days later, on May 13, Israeli troops contaminated the village wells with a biological warfare agent consisting of typhus and diphtheria bacteria, as part of a programme to render Palestinian resettlement impossible and ensure 'the destruction of its ability to constitute an economic and military base for enemy forces surrounding the road.'[26]In August 1948, the new Israeli leadership started finalising plans for resettling Bayt Mahsir land.[27][28]

@tzafrir @WahbAllat @palestine @israel @wikipedia yes and the Hebrew version is written straight from god’s (the famous historian) mouth

oatmeal,
@oatmeal@emacs.ch avatar

@tzafrir @WahbAllat @palestine @israel @wikipedia also, you’re forgetting to mention that the Hebrew version is copy pasting historiography based on the preferred narrative of the milita forces who committed crimes against civilian population.

Also, one of the most quoted historians on the Hebrew Wikipedia in respect to the 1948 war is Yoav Gelber. A member of the neo-fascist Tzomet political party (now defunct). I’m pretty sure you didn’t blush when you right some Palestinian historian are not trusted.

On the Hebrew Wikipedia you can’t even write 1948 war. It has to be the “war of independence”. From whom? Only god knows, but that’s the Zionist narrative that guides it today. Let’s not go into Judea and Samaria instead of the occupied territories etc. Orwell would have to redefine to keep up with the Zionist Wikipedia.

A unique coming-of-age story from the lost world of

Avi Shlaim was born in Baghdad and grew up in Israel. He is a Professor of International Relations at St Antony's College, Oxford. His previous books include the critically acclaimed The Iron Wall and he writes regularly for the Guardian, Middle East Eye and other outlets.

In July 1950, Avi Shlaim, only five, and his family were forced into exile, fleeing from their beloved Iraq into the new state of Israel. Now the rump of a once flourishing community of over 150,000, dating back 2,600 years, has dwindled to single figures.

For many, this tells the story of the timeless clash of the Arab and Jewish civilisations, the heroic mission of Zionism to rescue Eastern Jews from their backwards nations, and unceasing persecution as the fate and history of Jewish people. Avi Shlaim tears up this script. His mother had many Muslim friends in Baghdad, but no Zionist ones.

The Iraqi Jewish community, once celebrated for its ancient heritage and rich culture, was sprayed with DDT upon arrival in . As anti-Semitism gathered pace in , the Zionist underground may have inflamed it – deliberately.

This memoir celebrates the disappearing heritage of Arab-Jews – caught in the crossfire of secular ideologies.

@gfarrell in Islam as in Judaism the life of the mother is paramount. But regardless, in Islam as in Judaism, there are different schools of law with, different perspectives on the issue. See for example https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2022/06/24/abortion-muslim-americans-say-islamic-history-is-side-mercy/ of course American media is not authoritative but in the context of the USA might be relevant. “Sharia” is a racist scare word Americans use to justify violence against Muslims at home and abroad, but it’s not different than for example Jewish … which is also only relevant for some people and is not the law of the land.

@65dBnoise why only a “possibility”? Nazism’s “racial purification” birth it in American , it to mention Nazi Germany was partially financed with money and technology.

Lookup “War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America's Campaign to Create a Master Race”, by Edwin Black, amongst others.

Mein Kampf: "There is today one state in which at least weak beginnings toward a better conception [of immigration] are noticeable. Of course, it is not our model German Republic, but [the US], in which an effort is made to consult reason at least partially. By refusing immigrants on principle to elements in poor health, by simply excluding certain races from naturalisation, it professes in slow beginnings a view that is peculiar to the People's State."

Not very different from todays (including ) perspective on immigration, I would say.
