@kimlockhartga Pre-signed copies are getting quite common in the UK, so I have loads of them where I haven't met the author and I don't feel strongly about having it signed anyway! I do have some from events where I've met the author, but I don't go to many any more. @bookstodon

@jillrhudy Regular moths in my bedroom when I'm trying to sleep freak me out, so she didn't really need to make them scarier for me. It also reminded me a bit of the sleep paralysis storyline in Haunting of Hill House TV show. Also scary. @bookstodon

What are your thoughts on DNF (Did Not Finish)-ing books? Do you feel guilty about it? Do you worry you missed out on something? Or are you confident in dropping a book and reaching for the next one?

At what point are you most likely to DNF, if ever? What sorts of things cause you to DNF?

@skaeth @bookstodon No guilt! I'm reading for pleasure, so it should be pleasurable? I sometimes power through something short if it's going to tick off a tricky prompt in a challenge I'm doing, but I won't spend too long on a book that's feeling like a chore. That's a surefire way to end up in a reading slump.

@skaeth ATY we come up with the prompts as a group, so it's always fun and flexible. Popsugar is more about the people I do the challenge with, I don't always like all the prompts but there's a community aspect I love. @bookstodon

If anyone is looking for someone part-time remote (UK based, or hybrid in Bournemouth area) to do software testing, product ownership, general dev related admin stuff, give me a shout! I have 15 years experience as a "software tester" but much of that was with small businesses where I did a lot of different tasks. I actually quite enjoy looking after backlogs.

@bookstodon Just out of curiosity, how close are you to your reading goal for the year? I need to read 12 more books to meet the goal I set for myself. 📚📚📚📚

Not everyone works the same way, of course. We've discussed before that reading goals are counterproductive for many. Having a goal really helps me, but it doesn't work for everyone. Just like reading for pleasure and reading to write a review are very different processes.

@lunalein @bookstodon I am so fussy about narrators, they can really make or break an audiobook for me. I love Maya Lindh's reading of Will Dean's books, she is just perfectly Tuva for me, and I probably wouldn't have been so invested in the series without her. I always try and sample new narrators before committing. I'll switch to eye-based-reading if I don't get on with them but am interested enough in the book to continue.
