On the one hand, Danielle Smith is timing the re-instatement of the Provincial Fuel Tax at the same time that the Carbon Tax is raised, so she can blame all price increases on the Federal government instead of the Provincial government.

What is most disturbing of all however, is the fact that the CPC and the UCP are constantly telling us that multi-billion dollar oil corporations should not pay their own taxes, but should pass the buck to us and make us consumers pay their taxes for them!! /1

pinhman,

@zazzoo @ned The irony: “We don't need amateurs running this province through difficult times”<- looks like UCP, rather than NDP?

Pierre and Canada’s conservative premiers are peddling nonsense to people who want all the privilege and none of the responsibilities.

pinhman,

@gemelliz @npilon @matthewguy Mulroney privatized CN, allowing a publicly owned railway to be sold off. Look at Canada’s passenger rail now? https://springmag.ca/mulroneys-legacy-the-most-hated-pm-in-canadian-history

pinhman,

@tantramar @gemelliz @npilon @matthewguy "The financial difficulties experienced by all early railways forced massive public expenditures in the form of cash grants, guaranteed interest, land grants, rebates, and rights-of-way." and perhaps equal levels of corruption. Canadians payed for the railways. Politicians squandered it. Development of high-speed passenger rail will be met with Noise decrying it cost. Remind everyone who sold it off and why. https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/railway-history

pinhman,

@tantramar @gemelliz @npilon @matthewguy Efforts to establish high speed passenger rail will be extraordinarily political. It will be scandals of the past, vs scandals of the future. Good sense and sound judgement will be drowned out by all the political noise.

It really sucks in this world of privatized tiered healthcare that you can spend months getting tested for a clear diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, spend weeks testing for treatment, which produces perfect results in treating your condition (went from collapsed airways reducing oxygen levels from 95% to 78%, 32 times/hr to 3.2 times/hr. Over 29 is severe OSA, under 5 is normal), only to be told that insurance won't direct bill so I need to float $2,400 and lose $480 of it or no cure for me.

pinhman,

@ned Ouch, even in pathetic Sk I was able to get a CPAP machine via sask Health once I was diagnosed & upgraded to a better machine once when I left for BC (via work health benefits)

🤭Dedicated to my Canadian pals (although everyone here should appreciate it):

🇨🇦

pinhman,

@GottaLaff Poilievre's only campaign idea is to do away with Canada's carbon pricing (Axe the Tax). The test for Canadians will be whether they notice worsening of wildfires in British Columbia & the north, and yet another summer of drought on the prairies, and how the Cons have offered nothing but fear ignorance & prejudice ...

pinhman,

@GottaLaff Poilievre's biggest campaign idea is not to campaign at all. He's not arguing a "better idea" , he's dismissing reasonable Canadians who value good sense and sound judgment. He seeks out the willfully ignorant, the miscreant and the pathetically naive. With these he's well insulated from criticism & analysis. He can offer contradictions, ignorance's, prejudices, out-right lies, and have them left unchallenged.

pinhman,

@OrionKidder @GottaLaff The way to challenge Poilievre is to show his base that he is
"cynically playing on and counting on the ignorance of his supporters" A fool won't stand for being "taken for a fool"

"Axe the Tax" is a political proposal.
Fair enough.
But it isn't about making life more affordable.
It's spin to conceal a "let the planet burn" climate policy."

pinhman,

@BarryCooke @OrionKidder @bjornqc @Lomaxcat @gemelliz I’d bet PP will never debate. His foundation is appealing to fear ignorance & prejudice. He’ll debate only if he’s confident he can “clip” the debate to his advantage. Clip: to selectively edit out all but his simple words and slogans & offer these on his platforms of noise

pinhman,

@BarryCooke @OrionKidder @bjornqc @Lomaxcat @gemelliz The other party leaders should go into a debate knowing Poilievre will make every effort to “clip” it. Expect the irrelevant & out of context and willfully misconstrued. Perhaps this would make every other Canadian well aware of his strategy.

pinhman,

@BarryCooke @QueerInTheCountry @andrewbarss @OrionKidder @bjornqc @Lomaxcat @gemelliz Ndp has big opportunity to present itself as an alternative to the 2 oldest & establishment parties with the most baggage. Ndp has provided universal medical care, old-age pensions, workers’ compensation and employment insurance... https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/new-democratic-party

pinhman,

@BarryCooke @QueerInTheCountry @andrewbarss @OrionKidder @bjornqc @Lomaxcat @gemelliz PP with his dependence on FIP is vulnerable to People’s party and rest of the fringe right. They can easily offer extremes without worrying about alienating the center. They have no interest in the centre. Watch Saskatchewan’s provincial election in Oct for example.

pinhman,

@BarryCooke @andrewbarss @OrionKidder @bjornqc @Lomaxcat @gemelliz In Sk, the sask united party was competitive with Sask Party in Lumsden bye-election. SU successfully campaigned on parental rights, then SK Party began their assault on gender. https://results.elections.sk.ca/

pinhman,

@BarryCooke @andrewbarss @OrionKidder @bjornqc @Lomaxcat @gemelliz There are big cracks in the “united right” provincially, whether the incompetence of UCP & SK Party will impact the federal vote? Will NDP in BC & MB influence? UCP’s “majority” is less than 9000 votes across 6 ridings ... SK Party has lost every urban bye-election.

I'm torturing myself by listening to Pierre Poillievre on CP24. After his "axe the tax" rhyming policy BS, he goes on to say within the first 90seconds that he would “lower the cost of low emitting alternatives" (note he doesn't say renewables) and then proceeds to list: Nuclear (extremely expensive), Hydro Power (extremely expensive, almost gone), Tidal Wave power (currently mostly non-existant), Carbon Capture and Storage (greenwashing nonsense) in that order, and nothing, not a mention, about the cheapest electricity to build at scale right now which is solar and wind.

He is clearly a denier fool in the pocketbook of megacorporations that want to build mega projects for their investors, and continue burning ‘affordable' fossil fuel energy.

If he becomes Prime Minister he will undo what little progress Canada has made and will accelerate the possibility that Canada will literally burn over the coming century.

He must be stopped.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPrCbHx6rNg

pinhman,

@chris Poili has abandoned reasonable Canadians. Nuclear? SMR's rely on enriched uranium, that is not made in Canada, Hydro? is becoming unreliable from drought CarbonCapture? , OIl & Gas have backed out of partnerships for Methane Pyrolysis (CH4 -> H2 + C) though proven cost effective technologies exist. Poili seeks only the willfully ignorant

pinhman,

@chris For the curious, Hazer's Methane Pyrolysis process converts methane (natural gas) into hydrogen and graphite using heat and an iron catalyst. Unlike carbon capture it produces a carbon product with economic value and a clean burning hydrogen with better efficiency than both electrolytic hydrogen and carbon capture.
Hazer is just one of many Methane Pyrolysis technologies

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrBwjg5bNGQ

pinhman,

@chris Good question: "A portion of the produced hydrogen is .. used for self-power generation."
As hydrogen is produced , a portion of it is burned to produce heat for the process. Burning H2 releases no carbon.

Don Martin: The carbon tax coalition saves Trudeau from a loss of confidence

Poilievre's version of the Harper plan

And he’ll use tax hike opposition to promote his version of the five-point plan Stephen Harper used in the party’s victorious 2006 campaign.

Poilievre is echoing with a tax cut, a home-building frenzy, a fix for the fiscal mess and a crime crackdown.

@gemelliz think we are stupid enough to fall for that again??
