"If the plan is to convert everything worth converting into goodbye kiss revenues for a sunsetting industry, eventually a petrostate will need greater control of its populace & its democracy. The successful implementation of Bills 20 & 18 are vehicles to that end."
I’m adding #AxeTheTax to all the natural disaster posts I can find. :)
Only when people start to associate increasingly destructive ‘natural’ disasters with emissions, will they understand that carbon taxes are a big part of the solution.
Many started because forest fires can survive winter by burning slowly underground through root systems. Combined with the lack of snowpack this year, the melting snow didn’t extinguish them – leading to a record number of fires earlier than ever recorded before.
"The video also showed a "F— #Trudeau" flag at the demonstration, as well as an image drawn on a trailer door of what appeared to be the #Diagolon flag — the symbol of an online group that was also found on body armour and weapons seized at a border blockade in Alberta during the 2022 "#FreedomConvoy" crisis.
With all the references to #AxeTheTax and little said about #SlashTheCash (rebates) I thought I’d confirm we’re better off with the rebates.
My wife and I (both retired) live outside the Ottawa urban area so we get the rural supplement.
I use an app to track mileage so I know how many litres of gas consumed and our heating bills showed the amount added for the carbon levy (estimated the March 2024 amount)
Slogans like "Axe the Tax" are not sustainable climate or economic policy. No one wants to pay extra taxes--not even people like me who support a hefty carbon tax. That's precisely why carbon taxes work, they incentivise people to move to lower carbon options and industries to make lower carbon options available.
The simple reality is that doing nothing to mitigate climate change will be vastly more expensive than paying a carbon tax.
Has anyone actually heard Conservative leader Pierre #Poilievre claim that after he's cancelled the carbon tax, Canadian consumers will see big box retailers, gas companies & grocery stores reduce their prices enough to result in significant savings?
Because that's what many of PP's #AxeTheTax rally attendees think is going to happen. 🤦 Some even think they'll be buying a house straightaway once he's elected.
"At a Pierre #Poilievre [#AxeTheTax rally] in Corner Brook, NL this evening, where the media was asked to leave following PP's speech preventing us from posing questions to the party leader.
This is highly unusual for an event that the media was invited to cover. I was quite vocal in my opposition to the request. In the end, we had to comply, as it was ‘technically’ a private event and we were there by invitation of the party." - Don Bradshaw NTV News
When you vote for someone whose only plan for #ClimateChange is to get rid of the #CarbonTax, eventually those wildfires, all that smoke & increasingly whole Canadian cities getting burnt to slag? It's on you. You did that. Stop.
Canada's 2024 wildfire season expected to be even worse than last year's (archive.ph)
I don’t have a better source than NatPo. If anyone’s aware of a better one, post it.
