I just encountered a beautiful garter snake in my backyard, inside the wire fence that keeps our chickens out of the raised beds. I hope it stays safe and avoids the six ravenous murder birds out there.

I wanna hear about the best concerts you’ve been to! Some of mine:

  • Ozomatli at The Catalyst - played until curfew, spilled out onto the street and jammed for another hour until the cops came
  • Flaming Lips at Liberty Hall - second set, played the entirety of Dark Side
  • Dar Williams at Liberty - power went out, she sat on the edge of the stage and played three songs by flashlight
  • Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlisle, et al at the Gorge - simply magical

@jacob

  • Camper Van Beethoven at the Speedway Cafe in SLC, 1987. The whole show sandwiched inside a version of Interstellar Overdrive.
  • Hot Rize/Red Knuckles and the Trailblazers, The Blasters, Queen Ida, Eek-a-Mouse, Throwing Muses at a U of Utah music festival, 1988.
  • Sleater-Kinney and Pearl Jam at the Pepsi Center in Denver, 2003.
  • King Gizzard at Red Rocks, 2022. Their first show there, they were pumped.
  • Yo La Tengo at Washington's here in Fort Collins, 2024.

Just got back from a week backpacking and canyoneering in Utah, and I ... I think the sandstone wore off my fingerprints!? At least, TouchID hasn't worked since I got back. Wild.

@jacob Escalante? Paria? Worth the loss in my opinion.

Saw a pair of Black-headed grosbeaks at our backyard feeder this morning. Such a handsome bird. Ebird shows a couple reports of Blue and Rose-breasted grosbeak in town. Would love to see those birds again.

Late last night in deepest Minnesota the gravel roads were dotted with people's cars pulled off to the side in remote dark spots, like it was some sort of country wide make-out contest. Will the aurora provoke similar madness tonight?

sgillies,

@tartley I totally had that feeling last night, or of looking for a quiet dark spot to smoke some weed.

Mild aurora and great company this evening. The teens were impressed.

Big-time sports is part of the gambling industry now. This will end predictably, with scandals that make people assume everyone in the -- whatever -- game is corrupt.

    After I run, I'm going to try to overwhelm my sinus crud with cheesy fire chicken. This is a sauce of ginger, garlic, soy, gochujang, various fresh and dried red peppers, and Sprite.

    MAGIP and TNGIC in 2024

    I just came off two conferences with one being in Montana and one being in Tennessee. Both Geo related. It was my first time attending the MAGIP conference. Not that you need a long overly drawn out review of both - here are some of the highlights: TNGIC was fun. It was a different approach this year focused on people more than "the usual conference thing".

    “If Uri wanted to start a discussion about journalism at NPR, he succeeded, though maybe not in the way he intended. His colleagues have had a rich dialogue about his mistakes. The errors do make NPR look bad, because it’s embarrassing that an NPR journalist would make so many.”

    @acdha I agree with Inskeep that NPR goes above and beyond to air conservative voices. Often with nonsense beliefs and bad faith arguments. It's not NPR's fault that Hunter Biden's laptop was a nothing burger.

    🥚🐰🛞🐍 Exciting!

    I'm doing the first @pillow release using cibuildwheel + PyPI publish GitHub Action + Trusted Publishers!

    It'll take just under three hours to build 68 wheels and an sdist, and then upload them automatically to @pypi 🤞

    The matrix covers CPython 3.8-3.12, PyPy 3.9-3.10, manylinux, musllinux, macOS Intel + Apple Silicon, Windows 32-bit + 64-bit + ARM...

    Follow along the Easter fun at https://github.com/python-pillow/Pillow/actions/runs/8506382482 !

    sgillies,
    @sgillies@mastodon.social avatar

    @hugovk Ah, yes. I'm in a similar situation with https://github.com/rasterio/rasterio-wheels, which is modeled after pillow-wheels in a lot of ways.

    I'd love to ask for advice on how to avoid homebrew libraries when building rasterio's many dependencies. It seems like the number of installed homebrew packages on GHA runners is increasing with every runner image release and I see more and more conflicts. Is there a particular forum where I could ask you and other pillow-wheels maintainers?

    sgillies,
