@shoq Totally paywalled - they won’t even let you glimpse a preview of the text. But the headline says it all.

Rain hadn’t been on the agenda when we set out a few days earlier, but sure enough - one day the skies went gray, thunder rolled through, and we found ourselves hiking in warm rain for a while. The reward was this - a spectacular but short-lived rainbow adjacent to the peak.

Afternoon reflections, Cathedral Range

Fallen pine, its needles in simultaneous stages of life / dying / death. From its decomposition will come new life - which felt like a recurring theme out here amongst the granite starkness of the Cathedral Range. "Something lives, something dies." It's beautiful to be in the cycle.

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of exploring Yosemite backcountry with a couple of friends for five days. On our first night in the Cathedral Range, we arrived in camp after 8.5 miles hiking just as day turned to dusk, and a small lake lit up with perfect reflections of the mountain behind. An auspicious beginning.

I discovered how to make sriracha salt, so that’s gonna be my whole personality for a while.

@shacker@zirk.us avatar

@fraying oooh, care to share the recipe?

shacker,
@shacker@zirk.us avatar

@fraying Oh interesting. I went googling for info and found mostly recipes for adding sriracha to kosher salt and dehydrating it, or air-drying. Very different from what you're doing.

shacker,
@shacker@zirk.us avatar

@fraying super cool, thanks for the share. I ended up trying a simpler approach- 2 parts kosher salt, 1 part sriracha, dehydrated and re-ground in the processor. It came out fine, but not great.

I’m a huge fan of the photo sharing service glass.photo – no ads and no algorithms, plus an emphasis on removing toxicity. Great photo conversations and very little chasing of likes and followers. It’s a wonderful atmosphere. As a Patron, I was given this referral code to share for 10 bucks off your first year. Hope to see you there!

@csilverman @glass Totally. If you listen to early eps of their podcast, they talk a lot about how the desire to remove toxicity was one of their prime design goals.

@cdlhamma @glass I've been blow away by the level of interaction - of people leaving meaningful comments on my photos, of good conversations on photography. No ads, no algorithms generally costs money. Happy to pay for Flickr and Glass!

When you're editing photos and realize that at some point you were taking a picture of a building or whatever but some poor bystander thought you were taking a picture of them, and posed for the camera… to be a good sport?

There's a very fine line between future-proofing and premature optimization.
