Way too many turnovers for the Pacers. I think they'd be right in this if you cut out all the sloppy passes. They need to settle down a bit.

The pacers need more killer instinct. I think they'll still win this one, but you can feel them pushing less and letting the lead fall down a bit.
This isn't the only time so far this playoffs I've noticed it.

Pacers need size so badly. Giannis just carved them up. Missing Jalen Smith is killing them, and they shouldn't be so thin on strong bigs that missing Jalen is this bad for them

Celtics-Pacers has been a worthy IST quarter-final so far. The was brave to schedule this game against the 's Monday Night Football, and it's paying off (but I like basketball more, so I wouldn't be switching over anyway). @nba @nfl

some lunchtime thoughts after absorbing the weekend

  • the take that trading for Harden doomed the Clips is both true and silly. That team wasn't anything anyway. Russ will be fun on the Heat or whoever though

  • Philly is finally the team they should've been the last...3? 5? seasons: a fun, high-energy lineup around Embiid. They're enjoyable to watch for the first time in ages. Maxey making the leap isn't news anymore but it's deeper than that. Their team isn't perfect but it is coherent 🧵

I wanted to ask the question: would you think the time is right for an NBA team expansion?

I would say yes just because of 2 reasons:

  1. talent pool of basketball players. Look at the international tournament results from the last few years

And 2) Lower the amount of games played and address the whole load management storm that has been brewing the last few years.

Would you agree? Disagree?

I think the time is generally right mostly based on the valuation of teams and the payroll. The players would benefit from more teams with full salary cap space, and the owners really can't argue about diluting the value of their teams right now
I'm sure it would have some effects on the sport, but honestly I'm fine with as many teams in the NBA as it can financially support. If the league gets to 40 teams, the play in and in season tourney matter

If I had to pitch a wild vision for the NBA:

Expand to 40 teams, 8 five-team divisions
Top team in each division gets a bye
16 other teams compete in 3 game play-in series to fill playoff 16
Cut regular season to 72 games, partially made up by play in games and extended in-season tournament playoff games, also a series.
Winning teams would play more games and more valuable playoff games, increasing ticket value making the reduced games easier

Yeah, I guess I was thinking If the play in becomes a series (even just a 3 or 5 game one) not being in the play-in would effectively be a "bye", or not playing in what would effectively be the new first round

@brian I'm not looking forward to doing it. The last few I've purchased in my life have been from family which makes it much easier, but it's probably only a few years away that we're going to have to actually go out and buy one...

I have no idea if anyone reading this likes to play Fantasy Basketball but I'm running a 12 team league and we have a couple of spots open!
