Der @jascha ist mit seinem Account umgezogen, es gab ein paar Probleme, daher sind viele Followings in der Wolke verschwunden. Wenn Ihr ihm früher gefolgt seid, müsst Ihr ihm eventuell neu folgen. (Ich musste einmal Unfollow und Follow klicken - dann ging es wieder.)

The Verge also going in hard for Bluesky shows what I remarked a few days ago. ActivityPub/Masto gaining sustainable traction and mindshare is absolutely not a given and something else with less friction (for example due to it being centralized like Bluesky) can eat a lot of momentum within days

So I’m watching over on they’ve “realised” they can train their own model for content moderation and are laughing because it’s flagged up “pestilence” as a word indicating a problematic post. Now I’m no ML whiz but surely they’re going to need a boatload of human work to get this going (tagging, testing, retraining) and it’s not just something to “mess around with” live as they seem to be doing?

I am not as sure as many here that bluesky has no potential to become the "next Twitter". In the end it's about big names being on a platform and while some big names are using ActivityPub-based services a lot have fallen off of Mastodon et al. It's not a done deal and while technocrats always believe that open standards win, that hasn't reliably been the case.

@esther "winning" isn't meant in the economic sense. It's about being culturally relevant and that is absolutely what many people in the fediverse want.

@fancysandwiches I'm not saying that they are technically better (or even trustworthy: How can one release a thing without blocking to the public? It's dangerous), I just think that when push comes to shove those things matter less than whatever a few big names use.

Dropbox is the next company firing a significant amount of people to pursue the magical dragon "AI". Dropbox. A service that people just want to store their files, sync properly and make them shareable.

Sure they need some bullshit generators. The whole tech sector is just brain worms these days.
