@shlee kudos to the animator for deciding to have the skull disintegrate at the fusion points. Nice attention to detail.

I'm going to see if I can use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques so that I hear an airhorn sound over the word "union" whenever I hear or read "police union" and imagine that there's always someone somewhere in the crowd with an airhorn whenever someone is giving a speech about organized violence workers and the violence they perform collectively.

Higher social class predicts increased unethical behavior

https://www.pnas.org/doi/suppl/10.1073/pnas.1118373109

"Seven studies using experimental and naturalistic methods reveal that upper-class individuals behave more unethically than lower-class individuals."

@jmcrookston
Hooray for that lede!

"Seven studies reveal that upper-class individuals behave more unethically than lower-class individuals.
…more likely to break the law while driving
…more likely to exhibit unethical decision-making tendencies
…take valued goods from others
…lie in a negotiation
…cheat to increase their chances of winning a prize
…endorse unethical behavior at work

[T]endencies are accounted for, inpart, by their more favorable attitudes toward greed"

nerds. Does anyone know how to take a screenshot of an entire site page? I want to take a full screenshot of this copyright class and keep it. But not bit by bit. The entire thing.

I know the used to let us do that. Is this still a thing? Please send help, thank you.

This is an unhelpful response in the age of search engine #enshittification which is well documented especially on the Fediverse. Please stop this style of reply.

What efforts have you made offline to push for socialism/communism?

toolbear,
@toolbear@union.place avatar

@Radical_EgoCom
I built a lending library in my front yard and filled it with books until neighbors started filling it with books, too.

Related, I started talking to my neighbors. Per Timothy Snyder, I'm at least helping to fight fascism by fighting my own urge to isolate.

Fun with the Electoral College.

If These 3 Counties Did Not Exist, Trump Would Have Beaten Biden:

Overall, Biden got 7 million more votes than Trump in 2020 (81,283,501 vs 74,223,975). The most of any President in history. [...]

This is why I keep crowing about #TheStatesProject which is laser focused on these kinds of swing counties where your political contributions (money or activism) have a disproportionate impact. That and collective action through their Giving Circles program.

For years, I have been harassed by an r/signal moderator over a petty disagreement (temporary bans, comments removed, etc).

I am not a troll or bad actor, and instead frequently post to help newcomers out with the quirks of using an app that is tasked with simplifying complex encryption algorithms for average users.

Today I have been permanently banned from r/signal for replying to an unhinged rant about how signal is bad with a picture of an adorable dog in a suit.

What an awful website.

Gross.

Each subreddit is a small microcosm of "absolute power reveals". I know of a handful of healthy subs and each is a testament to the decency of the core person(s) involved.

What you describe is the worst.

I also dislike the brand subreddits that are "official" in that the company which owns the brandname controls the forum. Those subs are just advertising billboards and ways to squash criticism and place for fanboys to flash their tailfeathers at each other.

Sorry that happened.

There's no good way to prevent AI models from being trained on art published on the fediverse. But there's work we can do to prevent it and protect the artists who post there. https://werd.io/2024/protecting-artists-on-the-fediverse

@ben I feel like we'd get so much further addressing this via culture and community.

We have server rules, CWs, hashtags, and senstive media. What we need is a cultural norm that AI content must be declared and consequences for the occasional person who lies and cheats about it.

Posting untagged AI content should be a standard option in a list of reasons when reporting someone.

We don't need to solve everything with new software and in fact it won't work without the cultural shift anyway.

We will fail to stop the scrapers using technological solutions and waste a lot of time, energy, and development effort making the attempt.

Solve it with culture. What tools are missing to solve it with norms? I don't see many gaps other than the will to start shunning folks for enabling art theft.
