    @jpm @grissallia @daedalus I definitely have well-researched* feelpinions about this:

    1. The news organisations want to force Meta to carry their news? This seems counter to market forces neoliberal capitalism.
    2. Meta are a private company who should put what suits them on their platform.
      (a) If they do post news orgs content on their platform, they should definitely pay for it.
    3. Both Meta and the news orgs are more or less bad actors with a handful of exceptions.
    4. Government shouldn't be requiring Meta to do this.
    5. If you're the kind of person who gets your news from a social media platform, you deserve all the Bad Shit™ that comes your way.

    @timrichards they seem to dislike everybody brown, certainly. Te reo has been a part of everyday life in NZ for so long that it's attributable to nothing other than racism. It's the equivalent of taking Welsh out of the mix in Wales, or French in Canada.

    trib,
    @trib@aus.social avatar

    @allrite @timrichards @luciedigitalni yep. If the Libs' get in here, we'll take Acknowledgement of Country out the back and shoot it, the naming of local Country and people will disappear, and any further discussion of advancing any Indigenous Australian matter will be quashed.

    m8 you’ve had 40-odd years of the PC, 30 years of the internet being publicly available in Australia, and not much less than that since online banking and inter-account transfers have been around. If you’re unwilling to move away from a dinosaur like cheques and live in a fantasy where "We don't do any banking online because we're not familiar enough with computers. Computers don't figure largely in our lives,” you can’t be helped.

    This is a bullshit story about a bullshit non-issue.

    @luciedigitalni look, it's nonsense from top to bottom, except for the largely unexplored bit about how people somehow still require digital literacy support and better banking services in this, the Year of Our Lord, Two-thousand and Twenty-four.

    The guy who is the primary decision-maker for the promotion I'm seeking has been driven to the the edge of insanity by an ongoing VPN issue.

    He wasn't even aware he had a VPN and was doing a full computer restart every time a certain application failed.

    I just fixed it for him (failed software update from last September needs reinstalling)

    Today's Service NSW mailout includes the headline/link "It's a great time to be a cop".

    No. No it's not. Policing is almost never the answer.

    If you're of a mind to help people, choose almost any social or community service career other than policing and focus on being really good at that.

    There's no crime outbreak that's such a hobby horse of the media. It's not real. The official stats prove it in almost every category - https://www.bocsar.nsw.gov.au/Pages/bocsar_crime_stats/bocsar_crime_stats.aspx

    The same applies nationally - https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/people/crime-and-justice/recorded-crime-offenders/latest-release

    Build a better society. Do the things to move society toward everyone being safe with shelter and access to work they are able and want to do, and these challenges will continue to decline.
