Remember, a surplus in a government budget means they've FAILED to spend on social and public goods - the things that build a society and lift people up.

@decryption @bling I have an RSA token (my bank uses them for business customers). They replace them for you on 10-year cycles, I think. I'm on my second and opened the business in 2006.

shows a lot of promise for integration across manufacturers, but right now, there is still an awful lot of Fucking About™ required to make things happen.

I'm trying to integrate something and the bit that's required before I set the integration up requires SSH, an additional interface element (HACS), and an installation sequence, accompanied by clearing browser cache, that does not easily seem to work.

I'm as keen as the next geek to mess with stuff under the hood, but this is pretty much deep nerd only territory.

I find it incomprehensible that people are gullible enough to get caught in these schemes. I’ve seen the emails, the text messages, and the like that draw people in, and while some of them are somewhat well crafted, they contain giveaways that make it clear what they are.

Surely by now we’ve reached a point as a society where “don’t give your bank details or send money to someone you don’t know, and if you do think you know them, confirm with the actual person”?

If someone is naïf enough to fall for this stuff, I really don’t have sympathy for them any more.

I don't remotely believe in that "thoughts and prayers" nonsense, but whatever vibes you can send into the universe as $partner goes into her breast cancer surgery would be appreciated.

Despite her medical team assuring us everything should be fine, and all the tests and exams she's had in the last 8 weeks indicating the same, it's been a bit of a ride (with more ride to come).

What amount of capital would it take to short the entire speculative AI venture capital market to destroy its value?

trib,
@trib@aus.social avatar

@KathyReid all the money. There is an entire thread in Kim Stanley Robinson's New York 2140 that is about shorting a significant market related to the health of the "flooded zone" (the book is about climate catastrophe). The number there is in the billions to bring down a market valued in trillions. So, similar?

@jpm long ago, when my kid was in 3rd or 4th grade, I think, her Catholic PS (we aren't, but it was close and good) held an after-school with parents "where did I come from" kind of thing. When the mechanical basics were explained, my dear child (about to have her own 1st child), turned around, looked at me, and said loud enough for the room to hear, "Dad, are they for real?!"

Exercise news: I've added kettlebell swings to my exercise regime, basically on the strength of this video https://youtu.be/m1-GFjahKhI?si=_sKEfRoIu0MkDEMC
That guy's a bit full-on, but his content is useful.
But I have experienced what he describes. There's something about the exercise that gives you more power in ways you're not expecting. I'm sprinting faster. Moving side to side better. My front delts have doubled in size. I can see my hamstring muscles through tracksuit pants.

trib,
@trib@aus.social avatar

@evcricket unsolicited kettlebell advice if you're up for it (from a former strength and weightlifting coach): a kettlebell upswing doesn't come from your shoulders and back, it comes from your glutes and quads, which should contract explosively and momentum off your quads should drive your arms and the bell up. It's less of an arc and more of a vertical lift.

You use arms, shoulders, and back to control it coming down. Again, it's not a big arc, it's the weight dropping under control through a curve. So don't resist the descent, but just control it.

An arced kettlebell swing using shoulders and back is a fantastic way to get horrible AC joint injury.

Have a look at video of Olympic weightlifters. A kettlebell swing is a bit like the first half of a snatch and the second bit of the clean and jerk.

trib,

@jpm two 0402s = 0804 which to my amateur mind seems like just about what you need if you just add numbers together.
