If you have a Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro, you’ll be able to locate your phone on the Find My Device network even if it’s powered off or the battery is dead! This is possible because the phones have the specialized hardware to support the Powered Off Finding feature I previously reported on. The company tells me that the Pixel 8 has reserve power on the device that is channeled to the Bluetooth chip for several hours even after the battery is dead.

@MishaalRahman so a part of the batterie/cost/weight is allocated specifically for such useless and privacy spy feature. Why should we be pleased of that?

This not a passive mechanism and there is no free energy.

Don't lie to people with "phone shutdown and no battery" whereas it's just the sleep mode.

Le 10 avril sort Planet Crafter, mais je vais peut-être attendre quelques patchs avant de m'y mettre. Ça me laissera peut-être le temps de finir The Invincible.

De-federating does NOT prevent from accessing your public feed.

This is demonstrably false. Almost all servers that de-federate Threads still broadcast the RSS feed of your posts. This is available to everyone, even servers that are de-federated from yours.

If you don’t believe me, test this out for yourself. Append “.rss” to the end of your profile URL (exampleserver.com/@username.rss), and see what happens.

Hell, if I wanted to build a search engine for the Fediverse and not use ActivityPub, I could use RSS instead and I could index most of the Fediverse – whether you opt into it or not.

Let’s stop spreading the myth that de-federation by itself prevents Threads from accessing your public feed.

So I just learned what "The Stack" is today: an aggregation of GitHub repos for machine learning from which I can opt out.

But I won't.

I won't because they scraped some hot garbage I wrote in bash and Python that would make you faint. Bottom-of-the-barrel throw-away scripts full of coding crimes. Stuff like

find | grep | awk | xargs | ugh

...invoked via subprocess.run() then fed into more garbage.

I want "artificial intelligence" to learn this. It's going to be fantastic.

Hey... les lois européennes font des choses bien. Amazon AWS a annoncé que - pour se conformer aux lois européennes - ils suppriment les "egress fees" (c'est à dire le fait de vous faire payer pour sortir vos données de leur cloud). C'est considéré comme une pratique anticoncurrentielle par l'Europe.

@sebsauvage euh, ça parle de lever les frais de transfert sortant pour une courte période (quitter le service) mais le business modèle reste le même. Favoriser l'utilisation de services internes a AWS au jour le jour car sinon il y a des frais d'entrée/sortie de données

C'est quand même bizarre : ça fait 50 ans que le jeu vidéo existe, et c'est une industrie qui pèse plus lourd que toute l'industrie du cinéma et de la musique réunies.

Et pourtant à la télé, ça parle souvent des nouvelles sortie cinéma et musique, mais rien, absolument rien sur les jeux vidéos. 🤷🏻‍♂️
