It never fails, every time I get hit with insomnia, as I lay awake in the dark trying to get my brain to shutdown, my mind wanders to my unfinished ActivityPub server project. In the daze of excess serotonin, inevitably we land on the idea that we should pickup the project again, because wouldn’t it be great to have a service that handles all the different flavors of AP together?

Then the next morning I reopen the project, and immediately remember why I stopped working on it.

Okay, it isn’t entirely JSON-LD, it’s also just the sheer number of endpoints one must create to support the breadth of the protocol, and all the tests needed to confirm those endpoints function.

The work @dansup is doing on an AP testing kit will help, but it’s still just…so much. It’s a wall that makes my ADHD just nope out.

The fruits of today's labors. I now have a full gas management system. Mixed/Waste gas goes into the brown tank where it will be cooled (that's the next thing to build) and then filtered off into the distinct storage tanks. Each filtration unit has a custom IC program to only turn on when the temp gets below 20C, and there's enough gas to bother filtering.

With the introduction of Dolby Surround 7.1 in 2010, Sony were eager to put out a full home theater system. One of their early models, the HT-A7.100, included a revolutionary evolution to the standard stereo jack: the 7.1 surround jack, allowing all 8 channels to be sent over one cable.

Sony would make an entirely proprietary port completely unrelated to anything that exists and then spend billions promoting it, squeezing it into the next playstation and all their portables, until ultimately accepting defeat and just switching to toslink.

Well. This is interesting.

A new study found that autistic folks (well, mice models) develop PTSD brain structures significantly more eaaily than ballistic ones. That even comparatively minor stressors of the right type can cause this.

@gnuconsulting honestly, I absolutely see the appeal of it. Our world is being destroyed by greed, every government is corrupt, and it just takes one big accident for most Americans to end up homeless. 70% of the population can’t afford to exist, purely because the means of existing have been put behind money gates.

Moving somewhere with the promise of being able to actually live off the land and by the sweat of your brow is extremely desirable.

And it wouldn’t be bronze age permanently.

@gnuconsulting Lobsang’s blimp makes that clear, it is possible to move technology across the worlds. In the later books they have an entire airborne transit system for moving people and cargo. It’s only iron that can’t be carried, other metals are fine.

Plus, they had geographical survey data of where all the resources are, resources fully unplundered and even surface level. Yea the early colonies have a hard setup process, but iron is easy to forge when hydrocarbons are plentiful.

@gnuconsulting @mikeymikey it’s funny to me how Baxter seems to love to blow up the world at the end of his books. Happens in all the Long Earth books, in Proxima/Ultima, and is the central point of the Manifold series.

@gnuconsulting yeah, the affect of his Alzheimer’s was pretty visible by then. Kat hates this book. I appreciatewhat he wanted to do for the goblins before he ended the vimes arc, though.
