If folks want to have a discussion on infrastructure, and weak points in Calgary, consider, for a moment, the terrible state of deferred maintenance in our schools.
There are untold billions of maintenance that has been delayed at the CBE.
@JoeTurpin I am equally baffled by the subculture of car enthusiasts who indulge in 'coal rolling.' It's another example of out-of-tune conditions, but folks... seem to like it? 😔
The polite security guard (same one from a year ago) knocked on my door about thirty minutes ago. I had been sleeping on my couch while a movie was playing.
Apparently, the downstairs neighbours called 30 minutes before that, about a noise coming from my unit.
I was, basically, sleeping, no feet touching the ground, and the television was playing low volume Warhammer 40k lore videos (the soft spoken type).
Police tried to extract a confession from this guy, and told him his father was dead when he actually wasn't.
Then they said they'd kill his dog:
"At one point during the interrogation, the investigators even threatened to have his pet Labrador Retriever, Margosha, euthanized as a stray, and brought the dog into the room so he could say goodbye. 'OK? Your dog’s now gone, forget about it,' said an investigator."
I've changed sharkey.world's branding; @vsp has created some nice images and our new mascot: Haai
Thanks for the cool images, Vincent!
I'll check if I have uploaded all the right images in the right places. Also I'll try to figure out how to change the site's theme (colors) to match the images.
@TheWillofAvis Well, white elephants, if I recall the origin of the idiom, are rooted in malice. I'm not sure it's malicious -- just... a terrible way to push a feature, without consideration for the end-user.
Also, I walked by not one, not three, not four, not five...
... but twelve people who were lighting up while I was en route home this afternoon after work. Like, wow. It didn't occur to me until I was back in my neighbourhood after walking off of public transit.
Creating communities (online and off) is hard. It's a little rough going sometimes. My advice? When looking for those admins, keep particular attention to those who are building teams and networks of support.
