Little bit concerned that Squiggles is wandering around the Serengeti alone, dressed as one of nature's most hapless and tasty flightless prey animals.

@mishellbaker I see that lion eyeing already. Little do they know this is a finch in sheeps clothing.

@Tusky before last upgrade I had disabled showing boosts on home timeline. Disabled again. Any idea what it could be?

wmd,
@wmd@chaos.social avatar

@Tusky boosts disabled before updating, boosts enabled after update, so had to deactivate them again.

Goodmorning. Two poorly served railway lines in Bourgogne have been on my watchlist for years, and thanks to the long weekend and a very good deal from Eurostar, I finally managed to put them in a plan. Don’t expect a lot of trains, it is SNCF after all. First step: going to Paris

Red Eurostar arriving in Rotterdam Centraal.

@smveerman @partim Austerlitz seems to have potential, but yeah curious what it'll be when construction is done.

I'm still in favour of avoiding paris. ;)

The sun (and with that the earth) has only done about 20~30 laps around the galactic center, humans are not even close to a single lap. We'll likely will never complete one either... (takes 230 million years)

There are stars moving at the speed of about half the speed of light... (J0927 & J0927)

Ugh, is there no R11 service between Port-bou and Barcelona in June? or is their website just crap ?

wmd,
@wmd@chaos.social avatar

@quixoticgeek app also doesn't show it. It says go to alerts, but nothing on the R11 there...

But also no R1 and can't find R3 timetable either. So maybe technical glitch?

There's these jokes interns get sent out to do or get. (Is this still a thing btw? not too familiar with workplace pranks)

Stuff like sparkplug sparks, irish-coffee-beans and what not. I would like to add 'serverless hosting' to the list.

Got my starting number for the Hamburg Marathon on Sunday!

So excited! 😆✨

@blinry I enjoyed the columbidology podcast on doves. 2 parter: https://www.alieward.com/ologies/columbidology

So much about pigeons, doves and how we relate to them as humans over thousands of years.

This one is even weirder. Bridge angle again (it's hard to get close to the water at times). But also the reflection is soo dark in comparison...

This could also be interesting with the bright bottom cut off.

After checking to ride to the top with car, decided to ride today. Didn't feel like 70kmh winds, but there's strong cold gusts. No ice and sunny weather

I cycled from canfranc-estacion to bedous. Once connected by rail. Bud sadly not anymore.

It's about 38km, 529m climbing, 1310m down.

I'm cycling on a electric c-line brompton, 44 teeth front, 6 speed.

I had about 20kg on luggage on me.

Canfranc estacion, a long old train station (now hotel) in the mountains.
Looking down a road between mountains, there's a parked loaded Brompton bike.

wmd,
@wmd@chaos.social avatar

Managed to get up in about an hour. Cycling mostly in first gear with electric support on 1 sometimes 2 (out of 3). A couple of quick breaks. Used about half of the battery.

The wind was rough and cold, but the effort kept me warm.

I thought this would be the worst, it was the hardest work, but there was more to come. From here, its mostly downhill though.

Frozen water on plants in the shade.

Going down was rough, not unexpected. There already was strong freezing wind gusts (nothing like 70kmh though). But my own speed against it going down hill added another 30kmh. I was not well prepared...

Going up I learned to make sure to keep long breaths through the nose, keep stable pace (and inflate your tires). Going down the cold wind made it hard to breathe, to relax and to focus. With summer gloves and the hot sun, I made sure to stop regularly to warm up. The wind hurt like hell.
