I'd like to suggest that anyone who says Copilot saves them time is an indication that they're not doing their job, ie accepted the code without taking the time to think through each line and its implications.

To properly review code, you have to consider for each variable, each expression, whether it's appropriate, how it interacts with the rest of the program, etc.

Since you didn't author the code I'd say this should take more time than if you wrote it yourself.

tony,

@julienbarnoin
The only people who say this appear to be paid to do so by ad agencies.

Bad code can cost you hours especially if it looks superficially correct.

Not happy with apple.. Had to update the macbook (it's just an ios build slave these days) and got 'couldn't personalise' error.

$web suggested it's fubar and try wiping and starting again.. which is annoying enough.

I wiped it and..

Blank screen, and a message which basically says 'Sucks to be you!' (it's a link to a web page that says it's fubar).

Given there's some form of UEFI in there you'd think a rescue was possible but no.. it has to go to the apple store. For a software update..

@KingShawn I was raised on raw milk because that's what the local farm produced ('raw unpasteurised milk from a brucelossis accredited herd' was printed on every bottle).

But I don't see it has any advantages over pasteurised.. tastes the same, it's milk, goes in tea.. Seems an odd thing to seek out specially.

Another #Horizon thought: tech teams seemingly didn't know Horizon data may be used for criminal prosecution.

If devs don't know how a system is to be used, they can't exercise good judgment in making it.

People snark about "software craftsmanship" being hipstery, but there's truth to it: good software is far more Savile Row than it is Henry Ford. Business may want interchangeable cogs but good software needs skilled people empowered to think carefully, do good work and give a shit.

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

@tommorris TBF it was an accounting system. That should be implicit.

Even in its original incarnation as a benefits payment system it should have had some consistency guarantees. Although the sudden change of spec mid development does account for some of the chaos.

For all the video nerds out there who watched the and wondered how die video encoders of the TV stations handled the demoshow level visuals of the Swedish act at the beginning of the , here a comparison:

  1. Picture EBU feed from Malmรถ to the TV-Stations via DVB-S2 (1080i50 422 35mbit/s h264)
  2. Picture ARD received via DVB-T2 (1080p50 6mbit/s h265)
  3. Picture ORF1 HD received via DVB-S2 (720p50 10mbit/s h264)
  4. Picture FM4 via ORF TV-Thek (720p25 2.8mbit/s h264)

Screengrab of the Swedish performance from ARD transmitted via DVB-T2 Same frame as 1. Picture. You can see significant banding and blocking in some areas.
Screengrab of the Swedish performance from ORF1 HD transmitted via DVB-S2 Same frame as 1. Picture. You can see significant banding and blocking in some areas, not as bad as ARD.
Screengrab of the Swedish performance from ORF TV-Thek Same frame as 1. Picture. You can see really bad banding and blocking in some areas. The letters are unreadable in segments.

A woman was found living in the rooftop sign of a Family Fare grocery store in Michigan and had been there for about a year, police said.

"The woman had flooring, a computer, a desk, a printer, a Keurig and a pantry of food in the space, which was 10 to 15 feet long, five feet wide and approximately 8 feet tall at its highest point." So... like your basic NYC apartment?

Last thoughts of the season.
should have won - a better song and better sung.
deserved more points.
tried to make up for a so-so ditty with incredible staging, but I'm not sure the sweaty-sexy side of it worked well (but it could just be that it wasn't aimed at me).
were missed (the song, anyway, we'll see what has to be said about the singer)
was still my favourite and for bonus points the singer seems to be a nice person too.

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

was robbed
got more points than I expected given their 'lets have a video about gay sex in a toilet.. that'll win them over' idea.
No idea how got points.. generic song, poor set on the night.
won the public vote, and I feel it was the more interesting song.. but the judges disagreed.

The abba thing was absolute cringe. What I thought was impersonators was apparently some kind of AI thing.. but what was that even about? They didn't even sing..

eribosot, to Eurovision
@eribosot@mastodon.social avatar

Why did Israel get very few points from the countries' juries, and a huge amount of votes from the public voting?

My theory: the people at the top saying "let's not make this political" made it more political than the public, who just liked the song.

tony,
@tony@hoyle.me.uk avatar

@eribosot
There were rumours of an effort to get interested parties to vote for them. Comparatively few people would normally vote compared to the population so it's easy to skew the results.

It was an OK song for Eurovision but not a 12 pointer by any means.

There was quite a heated debate online tonight about why the Eurovision Song Contest didn't look quite right. And the answer is complex, it's not actually technical reason, it's down to how our brains interpret the world! So I wrote a post about it:

A great article on the GOPโ€™s Phoney War on antisemitism, and its enlistment in a very real and wider campaign against democracy.

โ€” โ€˜Foer and Bash are right that American democracy is imperiled. But as the draconian crackdown on non-violent student protests makes clear, accusations of antisemitism are not themselves evidence of liberal decline, but rather the tip of the spear in a frightening illiberal project serving the agenda of an emboldened, autocratic right wing.โ€™

@jmeosbn @KimSJ This is what makes it different for me.

From time to time we hear of wars and atrocities, and normally our governments say the same things we do, threaten sanctions, etc.

This time our governments are 100% behind what's going on.. even encouraging it by selling weapons. They no longer represent us.
