Did my bike prep for bike trip. Next is testing backpack.

One thing I'm wondering about but also fear people have strong opinions about is helmet. I've never ever bought one for cycling and wouldn't use them here, but cycling alone in the mountains is a different stories. So looking for helmet advice. What to look for?

if the Netherlands is going to take the north seriously, they should do the highspeed Amsterdam-groningen-bremen/hamburg train and an Amsterdam-alkmaar-den oever-leeuwarden-groningen IC.

stuck on a bus over the afsluitdijk again as there's railworks again. this would make a lovely trainride however.

Trying to get to Reggio Calabria in one travel-day. Swiss connection to basel doesn't seem to work anymore probably due to db-fail and the tunnel breakage, trains to paris just sold out for the 6th...

After checking to ride to the top with car, decided to ride today. Didn't feel like 70kmh winds, but there's strong cold gusts. No ice and sunny weather

I cycled from canfranc-estacion to bedous. Once connected by rail. Bud sadly not anymore.

It's about 38km, 529m climbing, 1310m down.

I'm cycling on a electric c-line brompton, 44 teeth front, 6 speed.

I had about 20kg on luggage on me.

Did a brompton test ride today, they do ride super nice. But do wonder how it will function in mountain areas or longer distances with backpack. can't really test that before getting one. 🤷‍♀️

With a regular bike, I consider going electric, but that's a massive price difference and adds 6kg.

Looking at Amsterdam-Hamburg connections mid december, it's all kinda crap. 1-2 transfers with ice: ca 100 euro, lots of RE trains and maybe bus: ca 35 euro.

Also no more option to transfer in osnabruck? have to go all the way to koln now.

Contemplating the route via groningen now, it's not longer, just lots of transfers and a bus.

@jon Do you know about the train border crossing at canfranc and bedous? spain/france. Currently there is a gap but some infrastructure remains, there has been a train and the government in spain seems to promise for years it will return.

I'm contemplating crossing it by bike at some point, the area is gorgeous.

There's a diy printer service at the hackmeeting. go to a local page, submit pdf (max 10 pages) receive a code. type in code at printer and your document gets printed. Also has some easter-eggs such as printing on the spot generated beetles by @bleeptrack
