Okay, so testing out this RISC-V single board computer with onboard FPGA, I've successfully

• Booted
• Verified I can boot into HSS bootloader/recovery with serial connection
• Connected to Ethernet, can ssh in and perform basic tasks like running apt and renaming the device to "Cabbit"
• Downloaded the proprietary tools for making FPGA bitstreams and obtained a license key

So, the next step is straightforward:

• Complete Super Mario 2 on original SNES hardware and time how long it takes me

Lately I see a lot of talk about companies saying they have to write websites with accessibility in mind to "avoid lawsuits".

How about writing a website with accessibility in mind to avoid creating a substandard experience for all people visiting your website?

An accessible website is one that people can use without friction. It makes them want to come back without having to be coerced via email SPAM. Why aren't we seeing this being framed in this way more often?

SNEAKY STREAM! Last night I did a short Distant Worlds 2 stream and realized about an hour into the game I had made a critical error, so I'll start over from the first save game. I didn't get too deep into the play-through, fortunately.

So today it's do-over time!

Today we're playing with the XL mod which rearranges the tech tree and expands the late game. I'll be focusing on learning mid-game warfare tactics in this run.

Continuing the Artemis storyline on No Man's Sky. We're two thirds of the way to completing all the chapters. I'm hoping to get to the last chapter sometime tonight.

I'll be choosing an empty galaxy as the target once we complete the mission. After that, I'll set up a new home base and start exploring the Universe anew from there.

Ugh, you ever see a post that is meant to give advice but the advice is very bad and you just want to yell at the person?

Plain HTML purists are bad at that. "Don't bother writing your web app in React, write it in plain HTML instead!"

I'm a big fan of KISS, but listen. Anything written in plain HTML is not an app. It's a document. To have even the most basic interactivity in the form of a POST request you need a minimum of a backend server platform to process it.

Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder: That damned Forgotten Beast won't go away. In our "test simulations" we tried attacking it outright (no one laid a hand on it before getting decapitated by a "scratch") and entrapping it (it was too smart to go into the room we set up for it).

So, we're going to try something clever. We will dump magma on it somehow!

So, we're gonna perform the ultimate #DwarfFortress save scum: we're starting this embark over from the very beginning.

Lessons learned: I need to focus on armor and the military much earlier in this game. I had been trying hard to ramp up my glass industry and clear-cutting the untamed wilds forests turned out to be a Bad Idea(TM).

I need to design the front entrance better to capture wildlife and vile forces alike.

I should settle for low-value furniture early on do build rooms out quickly.

Today in Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder: We're in Year 4 and we're getting close to bringing magma closer to the surface. We just need about 70 or so magma pumps. No biggie.

We're getting more and more migrants now, and our population is now past 70 members. Sadly, we lost one (our chief medical dwarf) to a were-ferret. Once we get our magma industry going, we can get armor for our dwarves for next time.

Today on Dwarf Fortress: The World of Wonder - Year 1003. We're establishing a pretty decent fort but we're not attracting any migrants, leaving us to stagnate at 16 dwarves from our initial migration waves. We'll need to see if we can improve that situation and soon.

Also, we need metal, and for that we need fuel! Can we find coal or are we going to have to go straight to magma? Let's find out!
