"We are, all of us, engaged every day in the construction of a moral order: by our accumulated individual examples, the words we use, the acts we condone, we can make it one that encourages decency and compassion towards others, or the reverse. This is particularly true of those in positions of leadership, political or other."
Would Anyone Be Interested In Joining an un-federated Lemmy instance?
We are NOT federated with the rest of lemmy.
The reason is safety issues when it comes to weirdos posting disgusting crap and it's just chilling on your server.
Our admin team doesn't want that liability.
We're down to earth.
One advantage with no federation, is that we welcome you to post content youve created. Like memes or funny videos.
As long as you're chill, posting in the appropriate community, we're not going to lay the hammer on you. Or take down your post over dumb stuff.
Lastly, you should join our Instance if you feel your values align with ours. It's important to note, the we understand at the end of the day, lemmy is just a hobby.
We don't have a desire to be, we'll, tyrants. People disagree and we get that. Not everyone thinks the same or believes the same things, that's just the truth.
We're just regular people like anybody else and want a place where we can actually be ourselves and not walk on eggshells.
If you feel we might be a fit for you, feel free to sign up or message me with any questions.
Also, we understand the appeal that federation has for some folks. I'm not trying to push the idea that being standalone is better. If that's not for you. We totally get that and hope you find a lemmy server that better suits your needs.
The difficult issue is if they get you in a dark alley and demand both your phone lock code and your iCloud password with threats of violence - giving them the digital keys to the kingdom. I don't have a good answer for this, which is when I am cycling home, I have an old iPhone 6 in my pocket to give up and my iPhone 13 buried in my pannier
Ok, so, confession, I don’t back up my Mac. Like, at all. I use cloud services for most things, code is in GitHub, but I recognize cloud syncing is not backing up. None of my family does (3 laptops). However, I’d like to correct that.
Also, my rPi running home assistant is really getting flakey. I’ve tried an external drive, wiping and re-installing and something is causing it to crash.
Now, I’m here, wondering if I should be looking for a single solution to both of these problems.
Earth science fail! I always thought clothes dryers blew hot air because the warmer temperatures made the water in the clothes evaporate faster.🤦🏿♂️
I never even thought about it.
Warmer air can hold so much more water than cooler air. So warming the air puts it further away from its maximum saturation point for evaporation, which speeds up the drying. Clothes temperature has little to do with it.
Just realizing this after reading some climate change / wet bulb temperature / flooding stuff.
As a tech enthusiast I'm on my way to buy my first iPhone ever. Before doing this I have two questions.
Which iPhone is the best and why? (if you have all the money in the world, what model would you choose now?)
What are the things you DON'T like in your iPhone and how are you coping with them?
Please answer only if you prefer iPhone, I don't need "don't buy an iPhone" or "Device X is better" -replies. I've been using two decades other mobile devices so I kinda know the differences.
Interesting #news values on the #BBC site just now, down from the main news from #Russia. A #pop#festival performance is apparently more important to us than the #UK government's response to the #crisis in nuclear armed Russia. Further down, more from the same festival is more newsworthy than policy developments in the #SNP, a party seeking the breakup of the UK. I don't know who pockets the profits at #Glastonbury, but they must pay their #PR bods plenty to get this stuff reported as "news"
@palex00 - and also the Digg collapse felt a lot faster. Basically they set things up so large content providers could automatically pump stuff onto the from page without the need for upvotes, and it died almost within a week. As Somas said though - Reddit provided a ready-made lifeboat, whereas we are more hammering one together around us as we bob in the water :)
