RTR#28 New homepage options, improved aggregate view, Support Us box

Today, I added new user customization options for the homepage, including the ability to set a new view. The Aggregate view is now featured in the main navigation under "All content," making it easier to navigate. Thanks for all the tips and feedback - great job ;)...

RTR#27 Aggregate view, work on federation

Today, a test version of the aggregate view has been introduced on the instance. It's a mix of threadiverse and microblog formats, applying all filters, blacklists, sub filters, languages etc. After selecting *, the links to sub, mod, fav change, and navigation works within the aggregate view....

Nothing will escape you, as usual. I'm adding it to the todo list, even though I was planning to skip filters for now, but... it's actually a pretty nice feature.

fixed

Good point. If the feature is thoroughly tested, I will make it more visible.

I jot down all ideas for later, thanks ;)

What is the fav change you're referring to?

I only meant to adjust the navigation after click on *

Just select * from the Channel menu at the top of the page (next to the username), and then navigate/filter as usual within the aggregate view.

If you do it from this thread, it will activate the aggregate magazine view; if you do it from the main page, you'll get the main channel.

@ernest
Is there currently a way to see threads boosted by followed users as a user? If not, is that something you're planning to add eventually?

ernest,

@Pamasich Currently, there is no such view, but I plan to personalize the feed /sub more with a brief description of why I see a particular post and the ability to filter, for example followings boosts. But that will be after the completion of work, at least partially, on federation.

Images definitely worked with Lemmy, I tested it multiple times some time ago. It still works with Mastodon and other platforms, so something broke after one of Lemmy's changes. I'll take a closer look in a few hours to see if I can fix something on my end. I'll fix the counter as well ;)

There have been no recent changes in this area in /kbin. It seems that Lemmy instances have completely lost connectivity with the rest of the world. Test comments written on Mastodon in lemmy post are not federated.

ernest,

it works, there are delays. I will continue testing in a moment

ernest,

Yep, images attached to Mastodon post also do not display in Lemmy comments. I'm afraid I won't be able to do anything about it on my end. I'll report the bug to the Lemmy devs, although they've probably already noticed it.

Hey, I haven't noted any federation issues lately, but I'll look into your specific case today.

When it comes to /kbin as a platform, the federation of downvotes will certainly work and will be configurable per instance. Today, I started the initial work on implementing new ActivityPub services from scratch. This is a good time to start a discussion on how it should work on kbin.social - to your points, I would also add:

  • Downvote federation only applies to remote threads from other instances, without affecting local therads

These points are not a priority, but relatively easy to achieve. They will gradually appear on the instance in between working on significant things. It's worth following https://kbin.social/m/kbinDevlog

I'm just wondering about 'spoiler alert' - what is it exactly? I haven't delved into Lemmy's code for a long time.

Indeed, I missed that case, thanks.

RTR#25 Further performance improvements (user page, tag page), marking new comments

Today, I worked on the user and tag pages to make them operate a bit faster and consume fewer hardware resources. Additionally, I implemented the first iteration of marking new comments in visited threads and posts. This is a test change and will be improved over the next few days. It's progressing a bit faster than I initially...

This may be more noticeable on weaker internet connections. There is also browser-side caching, so it may not work perfectly everywhere. Currently, this is an experimental version. For the server, it's marginally better, but there are no significant differences, is more about the user experience.

RTR#24 Setting up test environments for federation development, comment wrapping

Today, I began testing a new instance deployment process, which is an absolute must-have before the release. I also initiated preparations for new test environments that I will be using for developing the federation. The first iteration of comment wrapping has been introduced on the instance as well.
