AssPennies,

I had to squint at the “Quart Bags” one, and was really hoping it said “Queso Bags”.

As in, you had some legit purpose for needing to put Costco brand "Que Bueno’ nacho cheese into a ziploc bag on a regular enough occasion that it warranted 3d printing a dispenser for them.

I think I will ponder this for my nightly meditation as I fall asleep tonight.

Who doesn’t have a legit purpose for that? Queso is delicious!

Gyrolemmy,

I do this but just use the boxes they come in lol

aesopjah,

Yeah, I could see this being useful if those boxes don’t ask fit in your preferred drawer or something, but otherwise just use the box they came in

SuperCub,

Yeah why create more plastic shit? We’re literally drowning in it.

Psythik,

Yeah seriously; what’s the point of this? It’s just extra work to refill these things every time you get new bags.

CoderKat,

When you have a 3D printer, you have a compulsion to come up with uses for it, even if they’re useless. 3D printers are great, but there’s this urge to find more ways to use it, rather than be driven by what you want/need.

theragu40,

I like to do this but it’s much cheaper to buy bags in the giant packs. Those don’t fit in my drawer because they aren’t the normal size/shape. Or sometimes if I mix/match brands the boxes don’t fit together in the drawer. Uncommon, but happens.

Not saying this is 100% needed, but it’s not without use.

rambos,

Not OP, but you know 3D printer lovers love to print custom parts 🤣. Does your boxes fit perfectly in your drawer? Do you have a slicing tool for them? Have you ever tried to cut aluminium or plastic foil with the edge of the box? Dont bother replaying lol, I think OPs drawer is cool 😉

Psythik,

Psh, I didn’t want to reply to you anyway.

Gyrolemmy,

Yes to all of the above but i use a top cabinet instead of a drawer.

PR3CiSiON,

Does the blade for the foil dull quickly? Love the idea, but wondering why I’ve never seen them packaged with blades

canthidium,
@canthidium@lemmy.world avatar

Oh no not at all. I’ve had it about a year I think.

nooneescapesthelaw,

The ones i have do come with blades, usa

I love this - kudos!

Thank you!

joel,

Cool idea, I think it’d be more aesthetically pleasing if you painted them all the same colour

canthidium,
@canthidium@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I used what I had on hand at the time, lol

DogMuffins,

Because single use plastics are so hot right now.

canthidium,
@canthidium@lemmy.world avatar

Lol are you really complaining about plastics in a 3D printing community?

DogMuffins,

I guess so? It doesn’t make the comment any less appropriate just because it’s unpopular in this particular context.

Besides which, surely even 3d printing enthusiasts can discern between single use plastics like wraps and baggies vs reusable tools & objects made out of plastics.

galaxi,

I think you’re right to complain, but at the same time, aren’t single use plastics much lower on the pollution scale than, say, the fishing industry or other industrial plastic pollution? It makes sense to reduce and reuse, I try - but also find it beyond helpful to have a bunch of (unorganized) baggies strewn about for things like loose screws, storing filament spools, organizing USB cables, etc. I could definitely use something like this instead of a black hole under my sink. I know it’s easy to judge – esp without the whole picture – and hopefully people aren’t polluting willy nilly, but curiosity is a better approach than judgment or shaming when it comes to changing minds, wouldn’t you agree?

canthidium,
@canthidium@lemmy.world avatar

I just found it funny to complain about plastic use in a community where everyone is making plastic things. Seemed kind of ironic to me. Like, every spool you buy comes in a huge single use plastic bag. I feel like if you were THAT concerned about it, you wouldn’t be 3D printing in the first place.

I agree with you about the approach. Feels like people just love to judge. We all balance things in our own way. I very rarely use those bags; I put my leftovers in reusable containers, but I have them for the occasional need and I like to organize. And of course, it’s not needed, but 3D printing isn’t really needed in most cases either.

    Wow. Creepy weird

    OldManBOMBIN,

    :-/ Thought I was being funny. Being all confrontational and then hit em with a weird compliment.

    GrayBackgroundMusic,

    Stl?

    Those are the bag storage. The foil and clingwrap holders are custom made

    jimmydoreisalefty,

    Great job!

    Are you going to redesign to latch to each other or works well enough, as is?

    Edit: Are you adding to the empty space?
