jrest18n,

Not sure if kbin will be my ultimate solution or not. But I'm moving to federated communities. This isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened, and it will not be the last. I will be deleting my decade old+ reddit account if there isn't a complete 180 by them.

I'll stick with the Fediverse and kbin. It's got teething pains for sure, but it's a solid foundation to build on.

Col3814444,

I have zero intention on installing the Reddit app, if I can’t use Apollo I basically need to set up all my shit from scratch, and if I have to do that I might as well do it here (without putting up with fucking ads).

Not coming back until the indefinite blackout subs: r/videos, r/dogelore, etc. come back.

However I do see myself frequenting and engaging with kbin more often then reddit even then.

I'm not going back. I've been sick of Reddit for years now.

rolling,

There is no way in hell I am browsing Reddit in any of its native forms (old.reddit included).

At this point, even if they reversed the API changes, I still disagree with the direction they are going, and spez is still spez so I would still try to cut reddit from my life. Maybe use rss feeds even.

However, I just don't see how I can cut Reddit altogether when its still the best place to find information usually, especially when it comes to hobbies / niche interests, so I will still check reddit results first whenever I google something.

Oldguy,

Nope, I deleted my 10yr old account and moved over to the fediverse. Reddit has gone too corporate and is nothing like the community site I joined a decade ago. This is just a bridge too far. I'm done with them.

Meticulotron,
Clbull,

After the last two days, I can say with confidence that a lot of people will return to Reddit and that not much else will happen after the 48 hour blackout.

Spez has made it clear that he's not backing down and is clearly gambling on the idea that everybody will give up before it truly hurts his bottom-line. Only like, two or three major subreddits have vowed to go dark indefinitely following the shitshow that was his AMA, and there's been a few communities that have not only refused to blackout but also refuse to give the blackout any of their attention - /r/news, /r/worldnews and /r/leagueoflegends are three very good examples of this.

Yes, losing /r/videos and /r/iphone is a big hit, but there are clearly a lot of scabs that are more than willing to ride Spez's dick even while he asphyxiates all the third-party app developers. He's not going to scramble to find replacement developers.

As for if I'd stay here, I honestly prefer Lemmy to Kbin, both in terms of its performance, how comments are laid out and the number of overall instances. I don't understand how it has a reputation for 'tankies' when the only real radical left-wing instance on there is Lemmygrad.

bill_1992,

Only reason I'm not on Lemmy is this bug. I mainly browse r/all on Reddit, and subscribe to subreddits that otherwise wouldn't make it to the top of r/all. Browsing all the categories in Lemmy is basically broken for me.

I don't know about tankies, but looking at the current set of available lemmy instances -- I read through a lot of them -- a number of the instance rules do relate to identity politics.

Like, a lot of people operating instances seem to place a kind of high priority on that.

Reddit will no doubt come up in Google searches, but I will focus mostly on Fediverse alternatives for discussions.

Birujo,

I think I'll browse on Reddit a bit after the blackout end and until the API changes go into effect. Would like to enjoy the last couple days of Boost before it goes away. Then I'd fully switch to Kbin as I'm not a fan of Reddit's mobile app or mobile site and browse almost exclusively on my phone.
I'll probably also go back through my saved items to save pics & videos and maybe grab some stuff to share over here at Kbin.

theparadox,

I have already nuked all of my Reddit comments and accounts. It's been a while coming, being honest. I'm just so tired of enshittification. I was around for slashdot and digg. Reddit has managed to stay tolerable for far longer, but the enshittification has been an ongoing process for a while now. I don't see any other way to make a stand besides to just leave. I won't be going back because I know even if they pull a 180, they are just going to try to do it a little more slowly later - enshittification is inevitable when the primary motive is profit.

I think I'm done with reddit, the experience has been going downhill for years and frankly now that ive been away from it a few days I'm starting to wonder what I thought was so great about it in the first place.

I'm out of there for good. I may pop back in if I am looking for a specific answer to something, but I already deleted my accounts.

Newbie, inly forced to find an alt due to recent doom proclamations.
I see myself weaning off reddit over time. I'll pop back in probably once a day for a while, but that's instead of it being my only social media.
So eventually probably I'll abandon it. Maybe 6 months?
