msmidlofty,

I definitely want to stick around, but I will pop back into a few of the more niche subs I participate in to see what their mods are planning on doing and to either help coordinate a migration or maybe consider starting up some equivalent communities here if those mods aren't interested in leaving reddit (which should be a trip since I haven't modded anything since phpbb/ezboard era).

ykonstant,

I don't care too much about the Fediverse in itself; I was looking for an old.reddit.com-style place to share all sorts of hobbyist and technical content and have meaningful discussions on it. The interface kbin is offering suits me aesthetically better than the alternatives, so I am sticking with this site now. I like the clean but not too sparse feel, the simple threading, and the ease of browsing magazines. I would like to see comment thread collapsibility and easier navigation within a thread's comments (remove or improve pagination, for instance).

There are many limitations, but these can also be opportunities: precisely because this site is in its infancy, it has the potential to incorporate ideas from the community much faster and with more forethought than a mature, established product.

For my part, I would like to lobby slightly for native LaTeX rendering throughout kbin.social, similar to what mathstodon.xyz has. It is a somewhat niche functionality, but it would put math, physics and computer science-related magazines far ahead of corresponding subreddits in infrastructure.

SustainedChaos,

I’ve been on Reddit since its start and I’m never going back, not even to watch the train wreck.

My account and content is already pruned from the site so no.

Hard to say. While I like kbin so far, and enjoy the fact that's its still focused on being a social media platform than a money printer, a lot of the video gaming communities I frequent don't really exist on here, at least not yet. On top of that there's the current fediverse server issues. But I've been able to go without reddit thus far, so I can definitely see my time on there decreasing after this. I'll keep my eye on kbin and it's sister sites, and will probably make the jump here some day.

I'll likely drift back a few times over the next few weeks, but once Relay for Reddit stops working my Reddit time will drop by about 98%. I'll drop by old.reddit on my desktop every now and then, maybe... but once things get rolling here the majority of my mindless scrolling will be here in the Fediverse.

I hope enough interesting people stick around to keep the threadiverse fun.

Kbin's an alpha product. It'd only just been released when Reddit went Hinamizawa on us, and despite the alpha snags it seems to be serving lots of us pretty well already. It's amazing for an open source project to have this much interest and excitement out of the gate, and I hope that continues… maybe not at the same pace, though. ernest needs coffee, but ernest also needs sleep.

I felt very encouraged seeing all the activity here after connecting a few minutes ago. I also haven't connected to reddit, and I miss it. It's also true that kbin has a long way to go, but if the momentum keeps going, I want to be a part of it.

As a main source for wasting time kbin is my go to, with checking in at Reddit for a very few things. Such as gamedeals and a few "niche" games subreddits. Or if I need an answer for a really specific question. But as soon those move over somewhere else, I will stop using Reddit fully and when Reddit loses that aspect.

I am checking the other Fediverse things, like Mastodon and Lemmy, but I am leaning more towards kbin.

Sign up with IsThereAnyDeal if you haven't yet. I find all my wishlisted games using it. Both it's strength and weakness is that it just alerts through email for wishlisted items with a lot of filtering tools you can use. Otherwise there's the RSS option.

Question. Do they spam you with a bunch of emails when you sign up? Or is it just one massive email for the different stores that you can get emails for? Like I just want emails detailing about Steam, GOG, Epic and humble bundle and their deals.

The mobile interface here is pretty good, but coming from using a third party reddit app, there's some really nice stuff there that I feel would be super handy to have.

Something basic like tapping on the right hand side of a comment to fold / unfold all of the child comments. I get the idea is you're supposed to read everything but sometimes it's handy to fold away a deeply nested section so you can read other top level comments.

I've been on Reddit for 11 years. The site has changed a lot since I created my account. I am looking forward to starting over on the Fediverse and seeing how this new thing grows and changes. I don't think reddit is for me anymore and I don't see myself going back.

When Musk crapped Twitter's bed I switched to Mastadon and have really enjoyed the difference.

I'm sure a lot of users will move back when the hype dies off and I'm kind of looking forward to that smaller community.

I'll be going back to delete the last of my comments and posts.

Between Lemmy, Kbin and Mastodon there is enough for me in the fediverse.

Rough edges can be worked out, but an active corporate agenda is not controllable.

I do wish there was a single activity hub log in and profile accross the fediverse , possibly saving user data to IPFS.
The fediverse needs to be more cohesive.

Vulcan will stay at kbin and help grow it into a viable discussion platform in the Fediverse, but keep the Reddit account as well.

Definitely will increase crossposting stuff to kbin when subreddits are reopened. Vulcan will decrease activity on Reddit aside from crossposting (to kbin) and moderating a country subreddit.

FeenisBoobicus,

Wait, are you Vulcan? If so, I like the idea of having an anime robot guy around who refers to themselves in the 3rd person, so I’m glad you’re staying.

MsBluu,

I’m liking it here. Don’t plan on going back to reddit. Honestly, it’s been a nice change of pace.

zcd,

Absolutely not, /u/spez is a complete wank and the upcoming IPO just ensures this type of behaviour is going to continue.
