I’m reading stories (well, a story) that Tencent is looking to buy from Hasbro. I’m not certain how reliable the news site doing the reporting is though.

    @Arkanjil It sounds more like it's some sort of IP licensing deal that is being discussed.

    @Arkanjil Yep, one way or another...

    @Tim_Eagon @taichara That seems very strange. Tencent doesn’t do tabletop games, to my knowledge. If true, that likely means more video games, and even less attention to the actual RPG.

    @dungeonHack @taichara The theory advanced in the article is that if they buy outright, they don't have to pay licensing fees for the video games.

    @Tim_Eagon This could be a floated press release attempting to raise Hasbro's stock price based on the speculation.

    Too cynical?

    @Tim_Eagon Reporting from Comicbook.com’s intrepid Christian Hoffer on Twitter suggests TenCent may be pursuing a less ambitious licensing agreement for video games.

    @Tim_Eagon in theory, I don’t think this outside the scope of reality but yeah, I have doubts about this source.

    @Tim_Eagon does it make sense that the guy who used to run D&D, something actually profitable, would sell it off in order to just run the failing plastic toys company that weighs down MtG?

    Tim_Eagon,
    @Tim_Eagon@dice.camp avatar

    @bedirthan Depends on how much Tencent is offering I guess! It would appear that WotC would keep MtG, the actual cash cow, if this came to pass.

    @Tim_Eagon a deep paragraph seems to clarify that it's only the video game rights in a one-time purchase.

    Which makes some sense from a business aspect.

    It would also necessitate WotC staff to be regular lore bible liaisons like Stewart, Mearls and others were for both the movie and BG3

    @Tim_Eagon I think with tencent revenue and a ten-year exclusive gaming license the transaction could be for a bill+

    madgnome,

    @Tim_Eagon I am curious if that deal can be sealed in time to replace hit points with social credit points for the next players handbook. :dragonthink:

    @madgnome Only if it makes it past the 70% threshold.
