@mrscherryb I was the teenager who left the party saying "J'peux pas, j'ai piscine" when the horror movie tape approached the VCR...
But I'd say Sam Raimi's Evil Dead.
@mrscherryb Just because they were so iconic in my youth: Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street (though it feels wrong to leave out the exorcist).
@Charles
I’m not overly familiar with Re-Animator as the last time I watched it was probably early 90’s, but Evel Dead left my with psychological scarring.
@mrscherryb Evil Dead is/was scarring for a lot of us! It scared me to death when i first saw it.
Re-Animator is a great interpretation of a Lovecraft story. Between it and From Beyond I found out how much I enjoy Lovecraft(minus all the bigotry of man himself)
In fact in From Beyond there is a bit of BDSM going on, not the best ethical or representative example, but it was my first experience seeing such things. Oh my did it tickle an itch I never thought I had. It was life changing
@Charles
I’ll have re-visit Re-Animator at some point I think. Being a young teen I probably missed a lot of the subtle references and subtext of the plot.
@mrscherryb This is super tough there is a lot of gold here but I am going to go for Silence of the Lambs and Return of the Living Dead as a double bill.
@mrscherryb When starting with dark, disturbing and thoughtful it is good to follow up with some gooey effects, shlocky horror, humour and gratuitous nudity. Code to live by. 🤣
@Joseph_Leeder
Oh that’s exactly what I do too! Schlocky is a must on a double bill of horror, especially if the other film is going to be psychological and heavy.
