We are into fag-paper differences in emphasis - given #israel will take zero account of official UK govt position, all these statements by different opposition figures - including #labour#SNP & #libDem are performative gestures for UK domestic consumption - & won't save 1 palestinian life
Well I think the time when Israel could eject millions of palestinians from West Bank/Gaza and not become a total pariah passed a long time ago: if that is the intention then it will fail
The longer their war of extermination (of #Hamas) continues, the more pressure they will be under to stop - that is why they are going hard now
Really it is an impossible aim to eliminate hamas - in the longer term every civilian death in Gaza will make hamas stronger
Well Hamas gave them the excuse. Had someone asked in advance what the response of this Iraeli govt would be to such an evant as the slaughter on 7th October, what is happening now would be more or less what most obsevers would have predicted
I make no argument in favour of Israeli exceptionality.... just that there is more posturing in the UK than anything else on this war, none of which will make a blind bit of difference to how things unroll in theatre
We would be better sticking to ensuring our own society is just & kind, rather than fighting each other over the difference in Gaza between a "pause" and a "ceasefire" - neither looks likely, and we cannot change the odds from here
