"And here we are again, eight decades [after Hitler rose to power], at the precipice of something globally awful. Madmen call the shots in Russia and Iran and North Korea. China is a brutal dictatorship with ambitions of empire."

"The crooked, evil Bibi seems bound and determined to escalate war in the Middle East, if only to avoid his own prosecution, with little regard for the deleterious effects of his actions on Israelis as well as Jews in America and Europe. Traitors in Britain kneecapped that country with BREXIT. Traitors in Hungary and Turkey prevent the EU and NATO from united action against the totalitarian march. Fascism is waxing in Canada, of all places."

"And here in the United States, Trump openly invites comparisons to Hitler, reviving the ultimate flower-poisoning pestilence of nationalism. His flunky Kash Patel hints at the existence of a Sonderfahndungsliste MAGA. A corrupt, reactionary Supreme Court is steadily stripping our rights away. A small but vocal minority of NRx weirdos want to end democracy and establish a dictatorship."

@wdlindsy And generations of Americans are saying “What’s a holocaust?”

@CWilbur Yes, you touch on a significant problem: the educational challenge with younger generations. After Trump's first Hitlerian statement put Hitler into the news, I overheard my neighbors' daughter, who's about 13, talking with two school friends the same age. They were saying to each other, "I had never heard of Hitler until now." I was astonished. Then I thought that, as a baby boomer, I heard about Hitler constantly growing up, because my father and uncles were WWI soldiers.

@CWilbur I did wonder, though, as I thought about this, what schools are doing if children can reach middle-school and have been taught nothing at all — so it seems to me from that conversation I overheard — about Adolph Hitler and the Nazi period.

@wdlindsy When you said that, I became curious as to where you were hearing/seeing this. It would not surprise me if you were in a southern state. Exploring the US/Nazi Germany connection, you know there have been and continue to be nazi sympathizers in this country, mstly in the south. With that in mind it’s easy to see how such stories like the holocaust could be conveniently “dropped” from the curriculum.
The other part of this is the new generation of imbeciles born evry 20 yrs.
