Yet ANOTHER reason not to use Spotify. (How many do you need?)

Demonetization of lesser performing songs so they don't have to pay artists the already miniscule amount they barely do? Check.

@jake4480 What are your Spotify alternatives?

jake4480, (edited )
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@markstos not a lot haha. But Qobuz and Tidal I've both heard good things about. I'm big on indie stuff from Bandcamp, mp3s and physical media too.

lrt_writes,

@jake4480 Tidal! 👍

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@lrt_writes hmm, I've never really heard one way or other on Tidal, but I know it's out there.. You use it regularly and can find pretty much anything on it?

jhulten,
@jhulten@fosstodon.org avatar

@jake4480 not a lot I haven't found and most of that is indie stuff I can ping the artist about

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jhulten ah wow. I mean.. I use a weird mix. I wrote about it a little here. https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/03/03/finding-new-music-tips-and-tricks

lrt_writes,

@jake4480 It's a fairer platform (financially) for artists. It doesn't have podcasts, though. 😕

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@lrt_writes oh that's good it's better for artists. SOMETHING should be, I mean they're providing the music haha. No podcasts, though, huh. Not a concern for me bit probably would be for others, yeah.

@ipofil this is REALLY cool! Thanks for the tip, and can't believe I haven't seen this one!

narturr,

@jake4480 I’m experimenting with iTunes buying songs one by one

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@narturr one by one! Oh wow.. Well, with the way some bands make albums these days.. Hahaha

scottarmitage,

@jake4480 what is the “correct” streaming service to use these days? I switched from Spotify to Tidal several years back, but I hear it is also not so great..

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@scottarmitage oh man. They're all pretty crappy 🤣 I use FadBlock via Firefox to watch YouTube now for playlists on there, plays the ad for a 1 second (unnoticeable) blip before the video - gets around being flagged for an ad blocker which kept happening to me. I also use Bandcamp a bunch. I'm a fan of mp3s too haha

Mabande,
@Mabande@mastodon.social avatar

@jake4480 So one of the causes is the fake streams that checks notes has racked up tens of millions of streams launching minor artists to the top of the charts?

I'm not sure Spotify's totally honest here.

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@Mabande yeah, Spotify is pulling some CRAP. As usual.

    @seachanger @jake4480 @Tarnport use youtube with ublock orgin. It blocks all ads and it has a bigger libary than spottily itself. you can easily loop videos and its discovery is good. try it

    @Hunterrules0_o @seachanger @Tarnport yep. This. I actually use FadBlock for Firefox, works like a charm for YouTube. I had used Ublock but YT kept giving me those damn warnings. So FadBlock plays one second of the ad so it counts as viewed but is an unnoticeable blip when the video is loading 🤣
