His retort- “I got a double first in history from Oxford and that taught me all history is not true”. He was talking about events that were true but couldn’t admit he was wrong. A prize twunt
@Lassielmr@coffeepine I really despise this idea that "I've got a "x" class degree from Oxbridge makes you an expert on every aspect of your UNDERGRADUATE subject.
I've got a double first in English and French from Cambridge and I know practically nothing about almost everything 🤷♀️
@fkamiah17@coffeepine I say that all the time. I have a PhD in Law and a what I describe as a useless MBA from Stanford, but I know little about anything else.

The old adage "the more you learn, the less you know" covers it pretty well.
By their logic the Americans owe the British for founding such a great nation. So while it may appear that the UK received militarily aid it was just in fact a part payment for an enormous debt of gratitude.
@jfrench@coffeepine Erm, I don't think I can get on board with your premise there - the idea of America believing they owe anything to anyone runs contrary to my own experience of America 😂
If they owe a debt to any European country it would be France, without whom they wouldn't have won the war of independence in the first place.
