#Android users ➡️ here are two reasons why you should use a VPN:

🔐Prevent your phone carrier from seeing your web traffic.
🔐Block public WiFi hosts from tracking you.

damienthg,

@protonvpn Cool 👍🏻

Do you work on to make your VPN available on tvOS ?

@damienthg It's part of our long-term plans.

@protonvpn @damienthg that means, in 4 or 5 years?

hobopie,

@protonvpn Can you please support socks proxies at least while on the VPN. This allows you to not distinguish each service on your PC and not always be on the same IP. It is why services like Portmaster SPN service are gaining in popularity. Mullvad already does this as well. I understand why you don't do them while not on VPN but at least make them available on VPN.

@hobopie Hi! Here's why we don't support it: https://protonvpn.com/support/socks5/

hobopie,

@protonvpn I have already read it before writing that and its one of only reasons i have yet to sign up. You are writing this from the perspective of someone not being connected to VPN. Totally get that. But being connected to VPN and offering local IP socks5 like mullvad does make sense. Otherwise without it all your traffic stems from same IP so you are not gaining that much in privacy. You are still corelated among all your social profiles to that VPN IP. Also you get the encryption on vpn.

@hobopie We'll pass on the feedback to the team.

hobopie,

@protonvpn Thank you.

@protonvpn I use on a daily basis, phone and ipad. No issues with more battery consumption or whatever. Just a fast connection and it gives a better protection due to the ad and spam filtered enabled connection.

@protonvpn as a long time user of ProtonVPN (which is now much better than it used to be) I would like to point out that using such a service is a double-edged sword.

It goes without saying that privacy etc is improved but I'm seeing more and more sites using CloudFlare (and similar I suspect) to protect their site from abuse but this frequently results in VPN IP addresses being denied access.
The only way around this is to disconnect if you really want to visit the site.

endolexis,
@endolexis@digitalcourage.social avatar

@onthefencedev @protonvpn and I expect such sites will get less and less traffic if they continue this practice of generally blocking VPN access. I won't miss them.

onthefencedev,
@onthefencedev@twit.social avatar

@endolexis probably but it's frustrating because these are Insurance and Hoilday firms so sometimes I just need to drop my shields, other times I just click 'Back' and go to the next result.

I understand that we are using a shared IP address and not everybody plays nicely, but it's bloody annoying nonetheless.

endolexis,
@endolexis@digitalcourage.social avatar

@onthefencedev agreed, I feel the same. I just want to believe that this is a temporary problem. VPN is here to stay, sites will have to adapt

onthefencedev,
@onthefencedev@twit.social avatar

@endolexis I hope you're right. I gave ExpressVPN a go but it wasn't really any better and suffered a lot of the same issues the Proton had so its not a dig at them.

protonvpn,
@protonvpn@mastodon.social avatar

@onthefencedev Thanks for the feedback, if an IP range is being flagged, you can always switch to another one. If it is a bigger issue, feel free to share details with the team to investigate.

@onthefencedev@twit.social avatar

@protonvpn I think it's an issue with all VPN services - an example site is https://www.tui.co.uk and when connected to any UK server I've not been able to reach the site. I encounter CloudFlare blocks fairly frequently but normally just move on - their loss 😜
