@digitalcourage Hallo, wird es von euch ggf. noch ein aktuelles Statement zu Threads geben, oder gibt es vllt. schon eins und ich finde es nicht? :) Ich würde gern eine Mastodon-Instanz unterstützen welche Meta und überhaupt jedwede kommerziell betriebene SocMed-Plattform kategorisch deföderiert, falls ihr da Empfehlungen habt, höre ich die auch gern. :)

@protonmail could you please develop and release for Android and iOS simultaneously? Getting tired of reading about all the fancy stuff exclusively available to people using an OS and walled ecosysyem that I will never, ever touch.
It's bad enough the folks over at @threemaapp do the same thing apparently. :/

Hello @protonmail and @murena I'm interested in switching to a de-googled mobile experience but I'm pretty much invested in staying with Proton's products on all my devices: therefore, could you both confirm whether the ProtonMail, -VPN, -Drive and -Calendar android apps can run on Murena e/OS Android 13, which doesn't use Google Play Services? :)

Does anyone have advice to replace the new "free" Outlook that's replacing Windows Mail?

For once Microsoft had built an awesome app, and of course, they have to kill it and replace it with what basically is bloatware.

Has Thunderbird become usable? Any other good simple and useful mail client that you know of?

(preemptive warning: not telling me to move to Linux is not "advice")

@David can I ask, since I also at times wonder if I should switch from webmail to a desktop client: what are your main reasons to be using a desktop mail client? Multiple email accounts? Exclusively local storage (always delete mail on server after retrieving)?

@David Thanks for your reply! I suppose I might check out Thunderbird some time again, although I'm pretty satisfied at the moment with all my other email accounts forwarding to my @protonmail Webclient Inbox (and they, I hear, also have a desktop client in the works)

Im Zusammenhang mit dem Terrorangriff der Hamas auf Israel am 7. Oktober, habe ich eine Frage öffentlich noch nicht bewusst gestellt gesehen. Dabei finde ich die gar nicht mal irrelevant. Und zwar: "Warum jetzt?"

Warum ausgerechnet in dem Moment, in dem die israelische Zivilgesellschaft zeigt, was man gegen Autoritarismus rocken kann?
Irgendwelche Parallelen auffällig, zu einer Ukraine, die dem Nachbarland zeigt, dass Ohnmacht nicht die einzige Reaktion auf Korruption sein muss?

@Mela Da die Regierung Netanyahu mehrfach belegt davon sprach, dass die Hamas ein wichtige und nützliche Ressource sind, würde mich hier nicht überraschen wenn irgendwann rauskäme dass der Angriff nicht nur im Vorfeld bekannt sondern auch erwünscht war. Dieser Regierung ist in meinen Augen buchstäblich alles recht, um an der Macht zu bleiben.

@protonmail Hello, it seems not possible to modify a calendar event in android app when participants were added. All I can do is delete the event, any update is not possible. In the web app it's possible. Will the android app be updated soon to include this?

Unglaublich...ich werde von der Sicherheitsdirektion des Kanton Zürich seit 3 (!) Monate geghostet. Anrufe von mir werden direkt an das Generalsekretariat weitergeleitet. Diese "könne mir auch nicht weiterhelfen", sie sei für Medienfragen nicht zuständig. 6 Emails unbeantwortet. Was tun?

@heiseonline @verge Lässt sich evtl. irgendwie herausfinden, ob man damit auch die "recommended for you" Posts in fb und insta los wird?
(Ich vermute eher nicht, und das mich, neben der Datensammelei natürlich, am allermeisten von diesen Plattformen abstößt: es ist noch immer ein Algorithmus der entscheidet was ich wann sehe, statt mir einfach chronologisch anzuzeigen was + wen ich abonniert hab.)

@Mela Würde nicht pauschal ausschließen, dass das nicht jedem klar ist. Und anders als bei klar ggü. einer Gruppe diskriminierendem / herabwürdigenden Vokabular würde ich das vermutlich eher als Hinweis formulieren.
Klar, die Naturromantik und der Kulturpessismismus zeichnen ein gewisses "esoreaktionäres" Bild. Bis zu 'faschistisch' fehlt mir aber da noch ein "und daran sind die xyz schuld".

  4. Stümperhafte Gesetze wie das Jugendschutzgesetz
  5. Nächstes Xplain-Debakel steht vor der Tür.

So, das ist mir jetzt mehrfach passiert und ich habe sie Schnauze gestrichen voll! Wenn ich erst Bücher lesen soll, welche Begriffe hier im Fediverse nicht mehr genutzt werden dürfen, weil sie entweder im dritten Reich missbraucht wurden oder anderweitig irgendwelche "SpezialistInnen" als pfuibäh einsortiert haben, ist Schluß mit lustig. Diese Erhabenheit der Aufpasser hier ist unerträglich. Immer schön auf die Ignoranten herabschauen und beleidigen. Das rettet den Weltfrieden... NICHT!

Offhand thoughts reading Michael Lewis's book on Bankman-Fried's downfall:

It's interesting the extent to which belief in Effective Altruism played a role in people doing bad things. I'm generally a believer that utilitarianism is ultimately what most ethics systems do, and perhaps what they should do. But, would a virtue ethics system have led to... greater overall happiness?

@ZachWeinersmith I'd say that feeling pain has a purpose. It goes without saying that this doesn't at all mean that all pain ever caused is useful. But there's a threshold at which minimizing pain means robbing someone, including yourself, of the chance to gain wisdom, experience, insight. Personal virtues meanwhile can and should shift, just like any self-image. The best one can hope for is to gain understanding, insight into as many people and situations as possible, to ideally become able to adapt to anything, anywhere, anytime and be the best version of a person you can be in any given context. Most of us won't get into a situation where we either can act virtuous or choose to survive, but when we do, chances are we are not in a state of mind that allows for the decision to be entirely rational.

This is weird but, do you have any musicians you don't like because they sound too good? Like I just can't get into Joan Baez because her voice is too pretty for folk music. I'd much rather hear Hedy West, whose voice is quite pretty, but actually sounds like a song would've been before mass media. Like I recognize Baez as great, but it just doesn't work for me thematically.

One interesting thing I haven't discussed about the future of the Internet: now that it's mostly consumed on a small number of sites controlled by a smaller number of companies, AND we're getting to AI that can detect and regulate content, are things going to get a whole lot more g-rated?
